You install the AA apps you like to use, Waze, Pandoria, etc. from Play Store.
Buy a quality USB cable. Cheap ones may not work.
Plug the USB cable into the center console USB, and the other end into your phone.
Start the car, and the Projection Icon on the center screen should show the star trek type icon. Press it and AA starts.
Pick your app from the center screen and enjoy.
BTW - if you are a Waze user, make sure you go to Settings under Waze and change the sound to turn off speaking through the phone, and it will send the voice to the speakers in the car and mutes your music automatically. Very nice indeed

^^^ Good advice. And I went through several USB cables before I found one that works consistently. They are all over the place reliability wise. This one never skips a beat.
Fwiw I've found that at least when it comes to Google Maps I prefer to just use my phone rather than Android Auto. Google Maps on AA is hard to use and I can never hear the assistant speaking when it's time to make a turn. I just wish there was a good place to mount my phone.

You can adjust the volume while she speaking. I personally like Waze better that Goggle maps.
That appears to be the Scosche DASH mount version of their universal mount found on Amazon, correct? Given where you have mounted it, is there enough clearance to turn the phone 90 degrees so that it can be viewed in landscape mode? Thanks.
Thanks Guys.. I just ordered that better cable as that seems to be the issue.. Also I just bought the car 2 days ago and have lots of fun stuff to learn...
When I installed AA on my phone it needs permission to contacts, messaging, phone numbers etc. Any concern that with that? I'm always a but leery of that kind of stuff, but probably shouldn't be!

Google is integrated into Android Auto. You can verbally have it phone, text, etc. If you have that information on your phone let AA access it. At least it asked for permission.

GM actually recommends using the factory cable that comes with your phone. I've learned that the factory cables work and some high end cables work. Never go with the cheap ones because they are hit and miss.
