This thread is a good reminder for us to check that our manual keys are working. OP - I hope you're able to follow JerryU's instructions to charge the battery.

This thread conversation reminds me of a tragic event where a man was found dead in his C7 because he lost all electrical power and didn’t know how to use the emergency exit “handles.” As soon as I read that, I went out and demonstrated it to my wife...just in case. Now whenever I take someone for a ride, I make sure I point both of them out. I have also made sure my key will open the hatch and the back cable will open the driver’s door.

well finally got on. dealer came to my house and used s jumper box on starter positive post. he confirmed the rear mechanism was broken to open the hatch with the key.

i need a new battery get the trickle charger on it, and get the rear hatch mechanism opened with the key fixed.

Thanks for everyone's assistance.

I'm screwed mine does not have the rear key release. I'm thinking of taking it to the dealershi+ and have them install it. I believe it is a safety item.

I thought there was a problem when you posted that you turned the key a full 180 degrees. It only takes a quarter turn.

You really are screwed, that "rear key release" was an optional item on the build and cannot be installed after the fact!

Optional? I thought it was a standard item. With a dead battery it is the only way to get in.

Great heads up, the car was 5 years old on 13 Nov and has 50k on the clock and I have never tried the key. Mine works and if the battery is up you will set off the alarm.

Finding new roads!

It's disappointing how much FALSE INFORMATION is shared on the forums

It is FALSE that the key release in the rear is an option - it is STANDARD on ALL C7's...period

It is broken. Should have to turn it clockwise 30 to 40%, get some resistence. then the back hatch should open.

And this key and function is not an option. It is a standard feature designed to allow the driver open the drivers door an access the hood release when the battery has no power.

And his dog. Pathetic that in this day it's difficult to extricate your self from your own car. Bad design.

Also used to program key fobs if you should ever need to do so

Difficult? Just reach down between your seat and the door and pull the manual door release. If you cannot manage to remember that, take the top off. 3 latches, push it off.

Back in the 1920s, did you have problems opening your car doors too?
