Default HELP-Battery so low on power can't open doors & emergency key will not pop rear hatch

2016 Z06 --I forgot to put my trickle charger on my battery at end of season. Now need to get into the car.

I have experienced where the battery was so low the doors wouldn't open, but never to the point to where the rear hatch wouldn't open.

Complicating matters the car is sitting on the lift in my garage.

Any suggestions for getting some charge to the battery would be greatly appreciated.

Will the button in the rear open the trunk?

Wow! I thought using the key in the rear lock was purely a mechanical thing?

It is. I do remember early on in the beginning of C7 production, the cable that was supposed to be connected to the key release wasn't connected

Key is mechanical. Turn it harder!

Where is that button located, next to the rear camera?

If the battery is dead, that button is useless. The key is your only hope (you gotta really crank on it)

OK, that's good to know. Someone told me the button would still work if the battery was dead.

Do I want to turn the key to the right or left? When I turn it to the right, it turns easily and far. It will hardly turn left when I attempt to do so. I was afraid of breaking the key into 2 pieces.

Try to press down on the hatch while turning the key to the right. This should relieve any pressure on the hatch locking mechanism which may be preventing it from popping open.

Go to 45 seconds.

I dunno (I've never had to use it) but c54u's suggestion above is a good one

I had seen this video before posting my question here on the forum. Unfortunately, this did not work. I also tried pressing down on the hatch while turning the key. No success yet.

Try a different FOB to electronically open it, or maybe the battery is dead in your FOB.

That sounds like the linkage is either broken or disconnected (as @KenHorse suggested).

Is there anyway I can get to this from underneath the car (the car is sitting on a lift).

If you are on the lift, can't you put a battery charger on the front of the engine by the alternator and get juice to open the doors with the FOB?

Key is clockwise and firmly!

I think if you jump a battery to a ground and to the positive post on the starter motor you will get enough power to open everything.

Get notified of new replies

To HELP-Battery so low on power can't open doors & emergency key will not pop rear hatch

You could try the C6 trick of connecting a charger directly to the starter motor. I haven't done it so don't know if exhaust is too much in the way but you could fashion some sort of extension to the starter.

Take a look at the pics and description in Post 21 of this old C6 thread:

Are there any pictures and detailed instructions to do this? Where is the starter located?
