Default Tire Question

Hi I am due to get new tires for my 2016 Z51. I was wondering if people normally recommend sticking with the stock Michelin SS ZP tires or something else?

Really they are cheaper than the stock tires which is nice. The car is my daily commuter so I drive it a lot.

That's entirely up to you. It depends on what your level or risk is..

I switched to the A/S 3+ recently, as have quite a few others, & everyone seems to be happy with them. I stuck with the run flats even though my car doesn't get driven much. I bought mine through Discount Tire instead of ordering through Tire Rack. Discount didn't have them listed on their website at the beginning of November (not sure if they do by now). My local store didn't have them in stock either but they were able to order them from another store.

I was going to ask the same questions! First, if the A/S tires are worth considering and two, if there is anyone out there who choose non-RFs and simply accept the risk. My last Vette had a spare/jack so I didn't have to worry about it but I'll be up for new tires soon and would like to hear people's opinions.

I went with Continental DWS 06 all season non-runflats. They get very good reviews on Tire Rack as do the Michelin AS3+. The Continentals also do very well in the wet and fairly well in snow. Based on the reviews I also think they maximize ride over handling. If you want the best handling tire I would go with the Michelins.

I carry a slime kit but do not plan to use it as long as I can call for a flatbed. In the event I can't get a flatbed I will attempt to use the slime kit but if the tire is badly damaged I know it won't work. This is the risk you have to accept if you don't go with runflats and don't carry a spare. I have done this for over 15 years with several BMWs and so far, knock on wood, I have never been stranded.

Within 53 miles of taking delivery of my 2019 GS, I pulled OEM tires and put on Michelin PS3+ A/S.

(can't go wrong!)

I would have gone non-run flats but they don't make 'em in the GS/Z06 sizes)

I just ordered Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 ZP's. Loved 'em on my C5!

In Orange County CA STICK WITH THE OEM TIRES!

GM worked with Michelin to optimize performance of the C7. Even with the same width tires I had with my C6 Z51 it gets significantly better lateral acceleration! They took the businesses from Goodyear who had it for many years!

Sure if you live where you must drive often at 35 to 40 F better to get a tires that operates better at cold temps. Last I looked you don't get that cold in Orange County! I would not buy other than the OEM tires and I do occasionally have to drive when it's 30/35F- BUT very seldom!

I traded my 2014 Z51 in for a Grand Sort to get even wider tires that provide the traction the C7 needed! But it has the same Michelin tire!

I would stay with the OEM PSS tires, too, if I lived in O.C. No reason not to, unless the OP drives in the mountains or some far away and north place.

I live only a few miles from Foosh, and I still am sticking with PSSs.

Michelin started making them several months ago. Cheaper than OEM, especially the rears: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireS...SortCode=60220
