Why take a chance with an unauthorized vendor? Get it direct from Range Technology.

Thanks for all the replies. I don't have bad shuttering but it acts weird jumping in and out of v4. It does vibrate some so want to get ahead of the game before it gets worse. Will go for the fluid upgrade at some point but hoping for s smoother tranny and don't care about mileage loss
I did order directly from range, 189.00 plus free shipping

So after reading all this and going to the Range website and looking at all the FAQ, I've decided to sell my unit on Ebay for $100. The main reason is that I didn't understand that even with the newest software, which is what I have (V8.6R1) the unit can still kill your battery in as little as two weeks because it never really turns completely off. And after having that happen 5 days ago, I've decided that I don't what this item on my car. And if you read the Range website about updates they clearly state that they will update software for free even on units bought from Amazon (what I did) or eBay. But they will not warranty those items if they break.
Also just added it to the C7 For Sale section here.

While it does not happen much because of the torrential rain we are experiencing I have left my car in the garage for two weeks with absolutely no problems ....
it's not the range and its occasional miliamp draw .....

The primary reason for the V8.6R1 update was to eliminate the battery draw. There's quite a few threads on this forum regarding the V8.6R1 update and I believe you are the only one I've seen reporting it didn't resolve the de-charge issue.
No matter whether range devise, motor oil or whatever, "best price" often doesn't = "best value".

"the unit you purchased on Amazon may be an old version where someone just added a new V8.6R1 label"
So if you read the instructions that came with the unit or on the website, it's very easy to tell what software version you have by counting the blinking lights when the unit starts up. You don't have to rely on labels. Mine was brand new, in brand new packaging and tested to be the latest software.
Directly from the Range website:
Testing has shown that the Range Device has a very small battery draw when the vehicle is off and in "sleep" mode. This is because it needs a monitor running to catch when the vehicle is started. This small draw is not enough to adversely affect battery life or drain the battery unless left in place for an extended period of time (i.e. more than a week or two).
Our testing has shown that in the normal vehicle, it shouldn't affect vehicle starting for several weeks HOWEVER very cold or very hot weather can drastically reduce battery capacity, as well as any other accessories or modules in the vehicle that stay "awake" with the key off. Many security systems, aftermarket radios, plug in phone chargers and so on may also have a slight drain when not in use, so best practice is to unplug the MDS Manager when you know the vehicle is going to be sitting without starting or driving for several days.
To add some more detail:

To add some more detail:
- The device will go to a VERY low "sleep" state after the engine is off (within 3-10 seconds of the engine shutting off)
- In this state all the LEDs are OFF and it hibernates at about 1-3mA
- Every 7-25 seconds it will wake up to a "light sleep" state to check to see if the vehicle is running. In this mode, there will still be NO LEDS lit but current draw will spike for < 0.1 sec to about 7-10mA.
- If the vehicle is NOT running (i.e. RPM < 500) then it'll go back to deep sleep. Rinse and repeat until the vehicle is running, at which time it'll fire up completely and you'll start seeing LEDs light again.

I'm surprised Chevy doesn't just provide an setting in the car infotainment system for disabling this? They could still rely on the default behavior for mileage stats. Is this device something one should seriously consider even on a fresh/new 2019 with Automatic?

I would do that if I had a garage. The car sits outside. Took around 3 weeks for the battery to go dead from full up. Range sold in one day.

Thanks to this thread i remembered that I had left the range plugged in (car is covered in the garage for the winter). Even though I have the battery tender plugged in, I didn't want to take any chances. So thanks.
I haven't had any issues with the range affecting the battery btw.
