Has anyone else been advised that GM has reduced the free oil changes to two from three? My SA, who I have worked with for years just showed me a print out indicating only 2, counting the 500 mile change.
First I have heard of this.
I don’t mind doing them myself, just curious.
Thanks

This has come up from time to time. GM has different statements in various documents including one saying you get 3 free for all C7s on a general GM warranty website (until you click on the asterisk when it says only dry sumps get 3).
I look at it this way: The two free are for normal maintenance. That 500 mile change required for dry sumps is for GM's problem for which a bulletin outlining why the required change at 500 miles was first publied was 13 months after I got my September 2013 built Z51. That is to help prevent oil foam from getting into the air intake because curing "silicone seals may deplete" the "antifoam agents" in the 1st oil fill "if the engine is operated at sustained high speed." (Note words in " " are from the GM Bulletin.
It should be listed on your window sticker. Mine is a 2019 shows two maintenance visits {oil filter changes) to be used in the first year of ownership.
For some reason Canadian delivered cars get 2 years and 4 changes .
Be sure to ask the dealer what type of oil they use, as GM Canada will only authorize/pay for semi-synthetic oil. When I took my 2016 Z51 in for the 800 km oil change, I got into this with the dealer and GM Customer Care. I wound up paying the full freight for Mobil 1, and did not use the remaining "free" oil changes. I should note this may no longer be an issue though, as the oil filter cap now says Mobil 1 on it.....because of this issue!!
I think it was three on the '17 I bought and 2 on the '18 I bought two hours later. But, I couldn't care less since I'm not about to have the "lowest rung" on the dealership ladder screwin' with anything!
I insisted the dealer obtain 0w40 ESP Mobil 1 for my 2019 which they did reluctantly. They wanted $80 extra for Mobil1 in my friends 2017 and had been using bulk up to that point. He pointed out the owners manual said Mobil 1 but they were reluctant so he called Oshawa Customer service and the rep there said Mobil 1 and no upcharge or the dealer would be hearing from him pronto..After that we both received Mobil1 and no upcharge as rep was going to give a free voucher from GM if they put bulk in our car s and we could use the voucher for another oil change and filter with Mobil 1.
Yes sir, just bought a '19 2LT GS. Two is all you get now. No one mentioned that the 500 mile change wasn't included. But, I'll take what the give me. It's not a big deal to me either way.

1) I have a lift in my garage and so it’s very easy for me to do. I am insanely nuts when it comes to oil changes and like to start then hot and let them drain a long time. When I do the change I know that it was done right, filled right, tested right, filter pre-filled, etc.
2) the dealer I would trust to do it is too far, and just not worth the trip. I’ve been able to get the supplies in the past for the free changes and do them myself anyway, so the hour plus drive and the time waiting are just not worth it to me.
3) I change them on my schedule. I don't wait. I'm like Goldie Hawn in Overboard when it comes to waiting. It's not pretty.
Nothing wrong with free oil changes, but they just aren’t worth it to me given the circumstances.

Yeah, I would skip the free oil changes too if I had my own lift.

#1 reason
If your garage supports it, DO IT. Best tool in the shed by far. I had a C5Z 12 years ago that needed a clutch and they wanted $1400 to do it. The lift cost me $1800 and has paid for itself several times over. Just 12 years of oil changes alone!
(please ignore that Mustang exhaust on the floor, I have no idea whose that was!).
