I wanted to see if the problem I am having is widespread through out the area. My windshield took a rock from my last trip and needs to be replaced. I contacted Classic Chevrolet in Grapevine, Texas and they advised they have 5 C7's waiting on windshields because the ones they are receiving from GM are damaged and in worse shape than the ones they are replacing. I was advised to contact a local glass shop they use since they don't have a Glass man and advise them of options Hud Etc. and there glass would be the same except with out the GM stamp on it. Has this become common with the Dealers or are they just more or less passing on the job due to it being a minor repair with little profit and time consuming. I only have 6000 miles on car so would like to have GM replacement if possible.
I've seen photos here where a supposedly non-GM windshield simply had the GM emblem mostly sanded off, and others where the markings seemed significantly different.
And I've seen lots of posts here where people couldn't tell any difference (except for the markings) with a truly non-GM windshield, and others who said the non-GM they got was substandard.
I just took a Rock last weekend in mine. Went to Safelite and had no issue with them ordering me an OEM windshield. I still just need to take car in and get it installed.
I had to replace the windshield on my truck not too long ago, called the dealer close to my work, El Dorado Chevrolet off 75 in McKinney, who told me the name of the shop they use McKinney auto glass. Contacted the shop, told them I wanted OEM glass, they installed it, probably overcharged me a little, but the truck looks exactly like it did before. Truck has lane departure and brake warning stuff (2014 Chevy LTZ) and I heard from the dealer that non OEM glass may cause problems with those systems. I'd be concerned a bit more with the corvette, but the glass guys were definitely car guys. I went into the shop, but they had the option to come to you. (figured in the shop they have better equipment / available help)
I think their phone number took me to the safelite phone system, but the address was: 417 Power House St Suite A, McKinney, TX 75071 in case I got the name wrong
I'm not sure if they are any better than what the grapevine dealership recommended, but I'm sure the experience will be about the same
Thanks guys for the tips; this is the first time I have had to replace a windshield in one of my vettes, and just figured the dealer would be the place to drop off and get fixed. I have a call into safelite now and new glass on order so hopefully its fixed and lesson learned..

They will come to your home to install it if you ask
