my 2016 came with Onstar but I did not buy one of their plans. I still get an onstar report and have received emails I've looked through all my purchase documents and Onstar is not mentioned. my owners manual is with my vehicle in NC. does anyone know if our cars have a basic coverage that is free? my insurance co has asked if I have an anti theft device and a vehicle tracking system.
OP, before you talk to your insurance company. . . go to your OnStar account -> "OnStar and Connected Services" -> Chevrolet Smart Driver. You will be amazed {disturbed? shocked? disquieted?} by the amount of information the OnStar surveillance has accumulated about you. Speed events, hard breaking events, and where you've been.
Decide first if you want your insurance company to know you don't drive like Grandpa before you allow them access to your OnStar surveillance data!
You do have the very basic OnStar service for 5 years. However, that service doesn't include the things your insurance company is asking about. Just an FYI, I checked into the discount my Insurance agency was offering for those items, but the cost of OnStar was too much to realize any savings.
Also, I agree with "fnbrowning" above. I still have the free service that came with my '19, and I was surprised at the info they supplied. It also showed 3 hard braking events that I know was not so as they were recorded on my drive home from the dealer. And, I know better than to brake hard until the brake's have had a chance to set up. So, the whole thing is probably set up so your insurance company will never give you a discount, but will be able to increase your rates because of stupid stuff like I got tagged with. IMHO
