Default Pilot Super Sport and wheel bending issues

The GS and Z06 have numerous cases of OEM cast wheels bending and cracking on the inside of the rims in particular. If I understand correctly the inside sidewall of the Michelin run flats is the one that carries the load in a low pressure condition more-so than the outside. I am not sure what that side of the tire looks like but if it is not really marked heavily with inside/outside only, would it make more sense to mount it with the supporting sidewall to the outside of the wheel closer to the web of the hub to keep the deflecting forces more on a plane with the supporting portion of the wheel? I have not seen what the back side of the Pilot Sport looks like so perhaps others that have can let us know.

Are these tires meant to be mounted in only one direction as per the tread pattern?

Since they can be rotated from one side to the other they are not an asymmetrical tread like the old Goodyears on the C4 were.

There is sophisticated engineering in the design of these run-flat tires, and making the inside sidewall the rigid one is no accident. I am no tire expert or engineer, but need not be to foresee bad, and likely very bad, outcomes from doing this, starting with cornering performance. Have you heard of wheel bending occurring while driving on a ZP tire that was deflated?

I've seen the posts stating that the inboard sidewall carries the load when deflated, but is there anything from Michelin or GM to verify that?

The tires are clearly marked which side faces out. I wouldn't change it as there may be a safety factor.

We have a 15 Z06 with 17000 miles. No problems here and we travel in it. Guess some people are having problems. Is it the later years having problems?

Yes, the tread is different from the inboard vs outboard area. That alone would be sufficient to specify one side always facing out.
But the sidewall stiffness thing is a different story that should be interesting reading, if someone can find the explanation from Michelin or GM.
