Leather Bolster wear
Hi
Curious in my many years of owning vettes l have never had a problem with seat wear but again l never owned a vette with more then 30,000 miles. But this time looking for a C7 (used) all that l have been seeing is worn bolsters. Red being the worst then beige and finally black but black can be fixed with less of a color match problem.
Is it the same leather used in all of the C7 yrs?

So, everyone's reading some critical posts without offering a solution. This is a pretty typical complaint. This guy shows the correct way:
Even so, to help prevent the bolster problem, I ordered a SandyEggo Design (CF vendor) seat cover. A bit of seat insurance and the designs are pretty sweet.

Seems to be a problem across a number of Corvette generations. When I was looking for my C7 (used) I noticed a number of cars that had wear on the seat bolster.

Worn bolsters arent a Corvette exclusive. The problem of course is a lazy driver sliding down the narrow edge of the bolster, using 300 pounds of gravity to grind the lower left rear pocket seam of his Levis into the bolster every time he gets in. Same car will also have issues with tilt steering column because its just a grab handle for egress to the mechanically oblivious driver.
Find one that doent have a worn bolster. Its one indicator that demonstrates at least a minimal level of care by the previous owner.

Unless you cover the seatback, it's going to happen. I, like others, try to avoid the bolster on entry/exit. But it's going to wear otherwise. I had a Mercedes Benz with leather interior that I drove to 305K, miles in 16 yrs. It's left bolster had worn, but not through the leather. My diesel Class C coach with ultra leather left bolster hasn't worn one bit in 17 years and 101K miles! Pic below:
Most of you don't drive em much, certainly not 300K miles,

An ounce of prevention...etc.
I am 6' 3" tall and 67 yrs old and a tad over-weight. The act of me falling into and dragging my butt out of my C7 is not a graceful event. And yes, I wear blue jeans...
I didn't want to wait until wear started appearing before doing something about it. I had bolster wear with all my sports cars over the years. So I had custom seat covers made for my car for just that reason. Now you can get them too.

IMHO, it's cheap insurance...
Cheers,
Dave

Actually, I find myself telling passengers how to do it all the time. Butt first, then swing in your legs. You would be surprised how many put their left leg in first...
BTW, I thought his presentation was excellent...

Some are using athletic shirts to protect their seatbacks and bolsters. Cheap insurance, and washable.

If it's not an issues then why is GM fixing the "non issue" even out of warranty? My local dealer fixed mine without me even asking them to. It went in for something else and they asked GM to cover that as well and they did.
I know several people who have had the same wear as well. A couple are businessmen who NEVER wear jeans in their Vettes.

I had my driver side seat back cover replaced under warranty at 6,000 miles for a wear spot.
