C7 of the Year - Unmodified Finalist 2021
Default Ordering a C7 - advice?

I am looking at trading in my C6 with about 85k miles for a '19 C7. I am going to do a factory order and will be going with a coupe and just thought I would ask for any advice folks have.

I am worried about the tires which crack below freezing temps from what I understand. Also, have they changed the sizes on the wheels at some point to 19/20 inch as standard?

I am going with the manual transmission this time, my C6 has the A6 auto.

Sounds like in Canada you probably have to buy form a local dealer.

RE tire cracking. That can occur at perhaps -10/15 C but not at 0 C! Lots of "legal" warnings and recall the first cracking pic was from Canada in 2013. Funny, that pic of cracks, only in the tire tread, was the only one that was repeated on the forum for over a year! But that car was reportedly transported by train over the mountains with temps of -40 C/F! That said, if you plan on driving often when it's 4 C or less best get all-season tires for traction reasons- NOT cracking.

In Eastern SC I seldom have to drive when it's that cold but last year had to drive when it was -4.5 C. Yep traction is less, but tried an aggressive stop as a test- it was OK. And no cracks!

Seriously, if you live in Canada, and plan on driving the car in winter, buy all season tires or performance snow tires. You'd be a fool not to.

And yes, it looks like they did make 19/20 standard. But check with a dealer to be sure.

Pretty sure even the base now comes with the 19"/20"

Yeah 19/20 standard, as for cracking tires non issue.

I've ordered 3 C7s and at the time of each order I went into it with the thought that this will be my last Vette. That said, I ordered each car with the options I wanted since I thought it would be my last. My first one I ordered in Laguna blue and paid the $1000 since I liked that flavor the best. On my second Vette I again paid the $1000 for the Long Beach Red and $2000 for the competition seats which force suede steering wheel and shifter boot for an additional $500. For my 3rd Vette I though Admiral blue was the best color and did not order the comp seats or suede steering wheel since I saw little value in them for $2500. My point is get what you want on this order, be it 2LT, paint, or seats. I am in the minority on the comp seats btw and you might love them, good luck and congrats.

The OEM tires are prone to cracking if driven in temps below about -7C, but even if they weren't, they simply don't provide the proper grip below that temperature so if you're going to drive it occasionally in the winter like you've done with your C6 you will definitely need to swap them out for all season tires. And as others have said they now come standard with the 19/20" Z51 style wheels. That started in 2018. I'm looking forward to seeing you on some cruises this year in your new car when you get it!

Patman, I definitely would get all-season if I drive it regularly, I was just worried that the summers that come with the car will self-implode as soon as the temp reaches freezing

I look forward to attending the cruises too, I will be your twin (except I have no hair ) as I will be ordering Torch Red

Thanks all for coming through, appreciate all the replies, this Forum is great! Now I am clear on the wheel size and I also just wanted to be sure of anything I should know but it seems like it is looking good!

I picked up my C7 Z06 mid November and it was 2C with light flurries. Tires did not implode. Got the car home safe and sound with no issues.

When I bought my 2014 Z-51 and ordered the options I bought the 2nd package and cherry picked some options that were in the highest option package because that had some options I didn't want on the car !!!! Wayne

You will never be disappointed by ordering as closely as possible to your "perfect" car, even if you must splurge a bit to do so. However, you may well regret it later and wish you had, if you don't! GO for it!!!

Nice! What interior color are you going with?

Keep in mind that if you're ordering your car, by the time it get built and shipped here we won't be dealing with these frigid temperatures. If you were to order today the soonest you would probably get your car would be early April.

My initial gut instinct was to go with black but I don't know what others are doing for interior with the red...what colour interior is yours?

Mine is light gray, which is rarely ever ordered these days, most people seem to go for black.
