I am planning to trade my 30k mile 2010 Jetstream Blue convertible in on a C7 Coupe automatic (probably a 2015 or 2016 due to price). Someone told me the 2015s had tranny troubles. Is this a concern? Is one year better or worse than the other? Would appreciate some insight before I trade a car I love in for a problem. (Need a coupe so the dog can go with us)
You would do better selling your trade. It looks real clean.I would remove your windshield banner and that fender logo. That would make it not so personal for the sale.
Yes those years mentioned had issues. Not all of them.Your vin# would give a past history of dealer repairs.Obviously i wouldn't check that dealer selling it but another to check for any other issues.
Like maybe a possible tune? With the prices of the big 3 Dealers on this forum.Go to the C7 section cars for sale, dealer and private to price. A new one with piece of mind might be had? Good Luck,Research is your friend.
2015 -2018 have torque converter and tranny problems. If you find one that just had the parts replaced then buy it and put a afm delete on the obd connector. ( aka range device ) This keeps vehicle in V8 mode. These transmissions are the automatic 8 speed. 2014 had the older 6 speed auto. I have a 2014 and very happy.
Don't get the A8 transmission from any year. Search for it, you will find hundreds of threads about it. There is a class action lawsuit against GM for this issue. Camaro and trucks owners are in as well.

Really? All of them?
I have to ask: Does anyone with a C7 automatic NOT have an issue with their transmission? Please step forward.

If you take a look at the sticky in the C7 section regarding transmission issues you will see data that shows 302 people reported NO problems out of a total of 394 people who provided input.

Not scientific, but proves the point that not all have the issue. I suspect 10% or less, but too difficult gather exact numbers. If I really wanted a A8, I would not hesitate to buy one - after doing my due diligence. If I bought used, I would check the CarFax to see if there is anything there about what was done related to the transmission. The irony is that GM dealers report most maintenance details to CarFax, even though that is evidence of issues with their cars for all to see.
Im thinking if they don't have an issue they will before its over. I am in with the crowd that HAS had issues with the A8
Understood..there is definitely an issue, and the people at GM are discussing right now on how to handle it. GM owes it's affected buyers a solution. My point was that the vast majority of A8's are not affected. A prospective buyer just needs to do due diligence, but should just avoid all A8's.

So doesn't that advice have the potential to cripple the used C7 market for all automatic transmissions?

Buddy of mine has 84,000 miles on his '15 C7 with A8 - zero problems. Took the car to Europe for a year, came back, drives it all over the place. My next door neighbor has an A8 with 42K miles zero problems.
The majority of people do NOT have problems..... we hear from the ones who do on this forum.
I traded in my C5 and got a 2014 which is great but this first year did have issues esp with the engine. I was lucky as GM put a 2017 new engine in it before got it as was under warrenty from the previous owner. I would suggest 2015 and up but for sure get the Z51 3LT
