Reprogram after switching to AGM battery?
I have a 2014 Z51 Corvette with the original battery. The battery has never given me any trouble, however at 5 years old I'm pushing my luck. Somewhere I read that some cars require reprogramming in the computer if you switch from a flooded conventional battery to an AGM battery, due to the difference in charging rates. Has anyone heard of this applying to our C7 Corvettes? I'm considering getting the Duralast Platinum Battery from Autozone (its an AGM battery). Thanks guys. Jeff.

I replaced my Delco with a Odyssey AGM, everything works fine, just re index windows. FYI, if you tackle the job yourself it is a time consuming job, take it slow.

All things being equal (current capacity, internal resistance) DC voltage is DC voltage. Type of battery makes no difference to computers

Some people claim the AGM need a different charging rate than a flooded battery, so some adjustment of the charging voltage/rate might be appropriate. But I can't verify that, and even if it's true, not sure if you can reprogram the alternator VR on a C7.

Be sure to use the 1st one- not in the Owner's or Service Manual or you will likely rip the carpet! Forum Posts where a dealer tech did and if you wait to change batteries and have a AAA person jump start- they surly will!
Pic shows what needs to be done, pop plastic wheel cover before pulling caret out. Note carpet is NOT bound under the cover!

Nope, it's for real!
Window Indexing and Express-Up Reset
Window indexing may be required if the vehicle battery has been recharged or disconnected, or is not working. Express-up and the convertible top will not function until the windows are reset. After battery power is restored, a message or code displays in the Driver Information Center. See Driver Information Center (DIC) on page 5-23.
Once power is restored:
1. Close the doors.
2. Start the vehicle.
3. Put windows down
4. Raise each window and hold the window switch up in the fully closed position for a few seconds after the window is up.

The only thing you have to do is reindex the windows and you have to do that with any disconnection of the battery even if you don't change the battery. As for reprogramming for different charge rates on a battery I can't imagine any automaker designing in such a ridiculous feature into the charging system. Cars can see all sorts of lead/acid batteries installed during their life times. Some are better than average and others are a lot worse than average. They have to be able to handle all of them. All the automaker has to do is make sure the alternator and wiring from the alternator to the battery and ground has sufficient current capacity to charge a battery with a larger current draw.

I replaced my 2014's battery with an AGM last year. I haven't had any issues. I didn't have to reindex the windows. Battery was disconnected for about 30 minutes. Also, the optional battery tender works fine with my AGM.

Some cars do require battery registration when a new battery is installed. For example, all late model BMWs require programming when a new battery is put into service. BMW has incorporated intelligent battery sensors in its cars since 2002.
The IBS system, attached to the negative battery terminal, measures and monitors voltage, current, charge and discharge, temperature, etc. The car adjusts how much it needs to recharge the battery, accounting for the age and condition of the battery. When you replace the battery, you need to tell the system the amperage, type, etc. so that the system knows the base line.
It works astoundingly well. One of my BMWs is still on its original battery which is well over seven years old. It load tests completely fine. This is in Minnesota (-22F this morning, will likely see 100F or near this summer - we are not nice to batteries.)

May be buying a new battery for mine sometime this spring just as a preventative measure. The PDF file by JerryU is very useful as is the comments on re-indexing the windows.

No need to worry about charging rate. The Chevy Logo charger will work just fine. I have the equivalent none Logo unit.

Regarding your instruction pulling out the wheel well cover clip I would really like a more detail on how to do it. Here are several clarifying questions
- The clip you say “pulls out by hand”, is the clip molded to the wheel well cover or a separate clip you pull out?
- If the clip is molded to wheel well cover which direction do you pull it? To the rear of the car or toward the center of the car? If it’s a separate clip from the cover than this question is moot.
