Black painted wheels-will eventually need powder coated?
#21
I've owned my 2017 Stingray 15 months since new with BLK Z51 wheels. 3K miles. I've only washed the car/wheels once in that time. It just doesn't get that dirty driving it the way I do. I'll have to inspect my wheels after washing to see if mine have pitted. I hope not. FWIW - I happen to like the gloss BLK, OEM, so, flat black powder coated wheels don't sound appealing to me.

My 2015 Z51 black wheels have some blistering in several, spots. They were that way when I bought the previously owned car. They still look shiny but not sure if the paint will eventually come off.

(new to me, only 1200 miles ) 2016 z51/3lt vert with oem black painted wheels
from reading posts it seems wheel pitting bad enough to require powder coating might eventually need done-- is this inevitable?--- when did it become (how many miles) bad enough that you did it? how much it cost (only the outer lip of the wheel is painted black)??
much obliged

I think it's geography, here we see a lot of salt, sand and rocks on the road after winter. Always hated riding in the spring because most corners still have piles of sand and gravel from the road degradation and leftovers from winter sand applications... major slip hazards on a motorcycle. The tires on these corvettes are so soft they fling stones in the air and the face of the wheel spokes take a fair amount of abuse. I've watched small pieces come from the rear of the car and land on my windshield. I really need spats but I don't like the look.

My Z51 was peeling and pitted with only 1K miles on the clock. I cleaned them every week. Since they were powder coated, they have held up fine.
$100 per wheel to get them powder coated locally.
The killer was that Discount Tire charge me $250 to mount/dismount the tires and while they were at it they destroyed the bead on one tire and cut the sidewall on another and they would not admit any fault!
