Default Transparent Top tint

Hey guys, posting this because I couldn’t find anything on here to help me out so I apologize if it’s been posted before. The previous owner to my corvette didn’t seem too keen on putting the top in the hatch as just above where it meets the hook in being stored, the tint is torn and bubbles up from the hook digging into it. What’s the best way to go about fixing this?
Thanks,
Dito

Posting some pictures of the problem would be helpful so that we can better understand what has occurred.

You rip it off and get it retinted if you need the tint.

That almost looks like clear coat damage to the paint itself

Looks as if the top was dropped and now has chips in it from the picture.

I say you need a new top.

The clear tops are Polycarbonate and it's a Colored Polycarbonate, which gives it the tint.
You can still see the tint color where the coating is gone.
Problem is the coating is a special protective clear UV coating, and not a painted clear coat like on the body Paint.
Whether they can fix it or not, I would check with a body shop, most likely they've seen this before and might know one way or another.

Okay thanks, that’s what I figured, just wasn’t 100% sure if there was anything else to it.

That looks pretty bad and may not be an easy (or cheap) fix. Let us know what you find out or what you do to repair it.

Of course, there are usually other options. Looking at your problem, a good painter could mask off a "line" around the entire front just far enough back to cover the damaged areas and paint it the same black as on the A-pillars. I doubt you or most others would notice it after a short while, if it is done well. All the best.

If that’s a transparent top and it’s delaminating like that it’s shot. You can buy a new one for around 1650 or used ones pop up on here for around 1200.

Hi I had neck surgery and now could use a clear top... as I am not too worried of what I see showing if you decide to get a new one let me know what you might want for the old one...

The clear top is Not made of Clear Polycarbonate. It is a "Transparent" Colored plastic Polycarbonate.
As I mentioned, the stuff that's peeling off is a Protective clear film Protecting the "Raw" exposed "Colored" Polycarbonate.
If it can be peeled off with no further damage,.... the top is still Tinted.
It will have to be taken care though to keep it from degrading, drying out cracking, and fading.
Good Luck whatever you decide

OP,
I just purchased (last week) a brand new OEM top from GMPARTS.com $1739 with free 2 day shipping from Atlanta, GA. Be aware of knockoffs and there are a lot of them out there. I've heard that the fitment of the knockoffs are not exact and will leak. Good Luck!

That's a really good idea. If it was my top, that's exactly what I'd do.

That would be the roof I would have Carbon fiber wrapped, then I would buy another clear.

I hate the clear roof and the solid roofs are costing some $$$.

This actually sounds like the most straightforward way to go about it without sacrificing the integrity of the rest of the top as a whole. I have a connection with a paint guy so I may take this route, thanks!

For sure, I’ll see what I can do to fix this one first as it’s the only one I have, if I can’t then I may sell it.
