Hello again. New owner question: I want to be able to operate my nav system while the car is in motion. GM lawyers make it so you can't. I presume there is a hack, or cable, or some type of defeat for this "feature". Please point me in the right direction.
If you have a passenger, you can use the Navigation screen touch interface when the car is in motion. It knows you have a passenger by the seat sensor.

Yeah, 'cept the voice recognition from GM sucks *****. It doesn't even know where the closest DMV is!
Do yourself a favor, unless you have a 14 or 15, get Android Auto.
How about for those of us with a '14 or '15 and no passenger? 60 lb. sack on the passenger seat? Or how about a reasonable solution? How does the sensor work? Is there a wire that can be cut or jumped? Leave out safety comments. Currently I have to use my smart phone because its voice recognition is 100x better than Chevy's but I have to keep glancing down at a much smaller screen. I would rather use the car's navigation especially with the HUD.

Did you miss the part where I said "unless you have a 14 or 15"?

The HUD would be nice. AA does HUD. GM doesn't allow it. Yack at them!
Still, typing in addresses while driving, distracting or not also sucks *****.
I posted about a cheap (like ~$300) hardware solution somewhere in this forum. You might try that.
Still extremely happy I held out for the 16. I did so mainly because of AA.

If you can find the wire that conducts the vehicle speed signal to the NAV unit you can place a switch in the line so you can make changes to the NAV unit then close the switch so the unit works properly. If the switch is open too long it will generate a NAV failure and shut down. This used to work on the C6 Nav unit. May still work on the C7 unit.

Obviously, TyBoo's not thinking. Since you quoted him I saw his naive response. Ever think that perhaps, just perhaps, I wasn't living in AZ when I asked to navigate to the DMV? Yup that's right I was living in California at the time and yes they call it the DMV there. I also tried "the Department of Motor Vehicles" and "Department of Motor Vehicles in Santa Clara". The stupid GM voice recognition couldn't figure it out. I tried a lot of things for quite some time and it was just not up to the task. Then again from your perspective, you probably think it's an expert system well versed in AI! (ah that's Artifical Intelligence in case you were having difficulty).
Update: I have a Google Home. It has the Google Assistant. The Google Assistant is the same assistant that is in use with AA. So I say "Hey Google, where's the DMV?". That's right I asked for directions to the DMV while in Phoenix where they call it the MVD. Guess what? That's right, Google was not confused nor distracted and told me exactly where the MVD offices around me were. You can take your factory nav and... well you know...
Hmmm...maybe I'm odd car out but I use the Nav system in motion all the time during routing to find a POI like a gas station. No problem.
Yes, but there are only a few levels you can access w/o a passenger or a weight in the seat. The POI is one level that can be as a driver only. Things like addresses aren't.
I remember a couple of years ago, someone came on here and said their nav system would show a puff of smoke when accelerating at WOT. I don't think anyone was able to duplicate it, but it was a cool idea, anyway.
Don't quote me on this because Andy might see it, but the factory NAV actually works pretty good if you take the time to learn how to use it - at least it does in my 2014. The are lots of idiosyncrasies, especially with the voice commands and the levels of menu you have to talk it through for some POIs, but it gets better as you use it. I do not think the system is getting better at understanding so much as I am getting better at saying things the way the short little lady who lives in the dashboard likes to hear them. I use it quite a bit and rarely am disappointed anymore. I don't even have to say Hey Google; there is a button on the steering wheel that wakes her up. You just have to be smarter than the button is all.
And wow, Mr. Defaria had been looking for that DMV for a long time before he finally found one in AZ! But, as has been said, I am naive so maybe it is a major problem after all.
