Default Another A8 Starting to Fail (2016)

Less than 9k miles on the clock and noticed today in D mode that the transmission started to fluctuate about 100 rpm on the tach when cruising on the highway with a noticeable bump every couple of seconds. If I put it into M the problem seems to be abated (for now). I know its still under warranty, but this is pretty infuriating with a practically brand new car. Have folks had good luck with Chevy service departments getting this squared away, or does the problem keep coming back? Any service bulletins I should take in with me when I talk to the dealer?

Not sure if you've got a problem or not, but on a 2016, I'd consider extending the B2B warranty with the forum dealer that discounts those warranyies. I did on my '14.

I have an extended warranty already from when I bought the car new. So far I called two dealerships, and one is too backed up to look at the car for nearly a month, and the other one acted like they've never heard of this problem before. I can already tell this is going to be fun...

OP: I think we have all been reading mixed results on the dealer fixes. New trans flush on some seems to work and on some after a couple hundred miles it comes back. Some have had the TC replaced and had same problem four or 5k miles down the road. I've knocked on wood and haven't had the problem on my 2015 which is the most prone by all reports. Couple months ago I bought a Range and honestly should have got it sooner; the car overall just drives better without all the back and forth to V-4. I'd suggest you get the newest trans flush from the dealer, then buy yourself a range and forget about it; problem solved -- tom By the way I have almost 5 years in-service and 39K on the car.

What was the manufacturer date on your car, they started installing an updated torque converter in the December 2015 cars.
Also if you don’t want to go through all the Warranty BS just install the Range module so it always is using 8 cylinders and see if that takes care of it. I have a 16 with 18000 miles and with the Range and 93 octane fuel I never have any problems.

February 2016.

I spoke to the folks at Classic Chevy in Sugarland and they had heard of the issue and said they are mandated to flush the transmission with a new fluid first and see how that goes. I'll do that and see, but who knows if its a permanent fix or not. Unsure if a new TC will be any different than the one in there right now.

As for the Range module, which one are you guys installing? Any symptoms/changes that are created as a result of installing one?

Get it directly from Range Technologies. You will get free upgrades down the road, if there are any. Range will not provide free updates to the unit if purchased from other sources (Amazon, E-Bay, etc). I paid $189 last month.

No issues or symptoms have been reported here.

Just picked up my 2015 from the dealership yesterday. Tranny began to shudder when cruising (didn’t matter what speed or gear). They flushed the torque converter 3 times. Seems to have done the trick, for now.

as stated
" I'd suggest you get the newest trans flush from the dealer, then buy yourself a range and forget about it; problem solved."
Make sure to order the Range from the manufacturer. They will sell the latest software rev. cheaper internet Range's from amazon and other
suppliers may not be the latest software.
I have a 2016 Z51 and had the same RPM swing and rumble feel. Had the fluid changes and installed the range unit.
Trans has been fine. I don't have the latest fluid so I will have to get that changes again later in the year.
One other improvement with the range is since the car does not go into V4 should you call for a downshift in auto mode the car
reacts better. You don't have two things changing, V4 to V8 and a downshift. You are in V8 mode already so you only get a downshift.
The car feels much better to drive.

The new 8.6.1 Version is out, and does not cause any CEL's as the previous versions. I had the A8 in my '16 flushed, and had already been using the Range. Mine worked fine with the flush and the Range, but I only kept the car for approx. 1000 miles after I had the flush. I traded it for a '19. Range has a 10 buck discount, and free shipping for now. Good luck with your tranny.

BTW, your car will thank you for installing the Range. Mine shifted much smoother, with no shakes and shudders when transitioning back to V8 from V4. Yeah, mine developed that stupid shake and shudder at about 4000 miles.
