Default Tire question

The tires I have on my 18 vert. makes chattering noise when turning, when it's cold. It drives the wife crazy, she thinks there is a problem, Thinking about replacing them. Does anyone have a suggestion as to a tire that won't chatter when their cold.

This question comes up, literally every day. It's normal, it's not a problem, your car or tires are not faulty. It is simply a result of wide front tires in a slow, tight turn. It is accentuated during cold weather.
It is mentioned in your Owner's Manual and GM has begun including a warning label (affixed to the shifter) in new Corvettes.

This is a common occurrence with the C7 - it is not anything to be worried about although it is just annoying.

I know but the wife gets upset when we go out and it's cold. I have told her time and time again that this is normal she just seems unable to accept this as normal.

It is not normal on the Lexus that she probably would prefer to drive.
Either change the tires to AS+3 or change the wife.

Yes, switch to Michelin PS AS3+ ZP UHP all seasons, and the chatter will go away. You'll also have much better grip in temps below 60ºF.

I don't know if all season will do it too, it stems from the tires being so wide so your all season may do it too, not sure. However you can minimize the problem by trying not turning so sharp when its cold out and just tell the wife it is a normal situation for wide tire sports cars driving in cold weather. No need to replace the tires unless you just want to waste money.

He already told her; she doesn't want to hear it.

As I said in the post just above yours, all seasons do not chatter because that type of tire compound stays more compliant in cold weather. I have a set of both PSS and AS3+ and have 3 years of experience swapping them back and forth for winter vs. summer. The PSS as a summer max performance tire has a rubber compound that gets hard when cold, and that's when the chatter occurs. That's also why it has very poor traction when cold.

The PSS doesn't chatter when they get warmed up, and the AS3+ never chatters hot or cold. If you're doing short drives (under 30 miles), you'll never get enough heat in the PSS in cooler weather.

Please define "cold" in SoCal.

I've got 5K on my 17 non Z51 Stingray tires, at how many miles do most people replace their original tires?
