Default Stinger Questions

So, I'm thinking I'd like a black stinger on the hood. Thing is, my (ex) wife had stripes on her Mini and they didn't take to wax very well. Didn't have the same shine as paint--which might be normal...I don't know--and sometimes just looked sort of spoltchy.

I'd like something that has the same look as the vents in the hood (which I guess is carbon flash... that sparkle).

So, does the OEM stinger resemble the paint on the vents or is it a flat color?

What are your thoughts about just having a stinger painted on versus applique'?

Paint will always look better than a decal. The best look is to have clear coat applied over the entire hood after the stripe is painted on to eliminate the edge/lip transition.

When you say, "printed on", to you mean "painted on" or sticking on something that is printed? I'm guessing you mean painted and if I do that way, it will be clear-coated to yield a smooth coat.

Thanks for your input.

Is the OEM stinger from GM matte or glossy?

Use painters tape to tape off the outer edges stinger stripe when you wax the car and don't wax it.

Yeah, admittedly, I didn't know if I should wax my ex's Mini stripes or not. Looks like I should have left them alone...

Both GM and aftermarket parts are commonly painted carbon flash metallic; same color as the louvers.

Painted stingers are certainly an option, but I’ve never had any issues with my OEM carbon flash vinyl stinger. It has a similar sheen as the other painted carbon flash pieces on the car.

But you don't put a coat of wax on it...? You do like was mentioned before... taping it off, for example?

Carbon flash decal
The vent still looks more glossy but it's close... does the OEM stinger sparkle any when the sun hits it right?

I have the OEM carbon flash stinger and it's glossy and you can see flakes sparkle in the light just like the carbon flash hood vent. I wax the stinger just like I do the blade silver and the hood vent it all looks very nice together.

I bought a piece of 3m 1080 wrap in black metallic (g212) for 22 dollars. Some 3m knifeless tape for 10 dollars. Then laid out the pattern set the wrap down and cut it. So total cost was 32 dollars and I had enough material left over to make a hash stripe as well.

Here is the stinger that I had installed on my car. It was done at the same place that did the Xpel install.

Well, that is a fine-looking hood (and car) !

Nice! Looks like it sparkles in the black area, too.
