Will the coppers know you have an R7? I think up here they have radar detector detection. It is illegal to have radar detectors in Manitoba. It is illegal to have fun in Manitoba.
We had one that if it detected one of the detectors looking for it would cut itself off and after a minute or so come back on and search for the threat again. It would \keep doing this until the threat was gone. This was about 15 years ago so they may just be shielded now. Can't remember if it was a Uniden or not. The Passport doesn't have anything like this, cause I got lit up in Virginia and barely got the unit powered off and took down from the rearview mirror in time. He went by the line of vehicles real slow looking in the windows to see who it was that had one. If it had still been on the mirror I am sure I would have been pulled.
Valentine One updated last year. They have a program for that. Essentially, they yank the guts out of your old one and put in current production innards and software. Costs a few hundred bucks but still cheaper than a new one.
The V1 is backed by (or vice-versus) by an elderly Excort Passport 9500CI radar and laser detector. And WAZE.
Its interesting how the two RDs respond differently. Neither one always picks up the signal the other is responding to, whatever the band. Having used them together for over four years I’d feel I had my bare *** out in the wind if I gave one up.

fwiw, I was told by V1 tech support not to run two similar detectors simultaneously as they can interfere with each other.
+1 for the Uniden R3, and also Waze. Looking forward to seeing the testing on the R7 when it comes out. But the range (when setup correctly) on the R3 is unbelievable. One of my furthest detections, thus far, has been 5.7 miles.
Looks like you had to remove a ton of stuff to mount that sniffer. lol
Im doing the car from ground up right now, so before the motor, torque tube and the trans are bolted in, I’m getting all the wiring and stuff done, easier to install and conceal

I have a Escort MAX and am happy but was waiting.................
FINALLY, I have been a big fan of the Escort Live system where owners can post LEO reports and they show position on a map.
I have been so long for waiting on the ability to move this display from my iPhone to the NAV Screen.
Being that I have a 2015 Z51 I did not have Apple Car play, now coming in the mail is my new NAVTOOL which will give me full Car Play and with HDMI out I can now mirror
Escort Live to the NAV System. Better yet Escort is coming out with a car play app which will now have touch screen on the NAV Screen.
It may not be the highest sensitivity but with many folks using Escort live I have actually a longer distance in notification (very handy for lazer related LEOs).
Looking forward to getting it all installed (course had to add the new camera from escort) Now will have 3 forward looking cameras (PDR, Front mount and Escort CAM).
OK - you guys have me sold on considering the R7. I've been a long time V1 user and believer, primarily because of the arrows. But now that the R7 has arrows, I like some of the other features - it better be better as its one of the most expensive RD's on the market.
NOW, my question is mounting. Will the R7 have a similar mounting solution as the R3? For those pre-ordering the R7, how do you plan on mounting? I prefer a stealth mode, will the R7 have a concealed remote? I also like to hard wire it - where would you recommend mounting the unit in a C7 Z06?

Seems like everyone likes the blend mount. I don't. Instead, I use the two small suction cup mount over on the right side high up so I can flip the sun visor down and people from behind me cannot see it. I'm sure the hard wired mute button that is available for the r3 will function the same on the new r7. Obviously, I'm guessing about that since its not actually out yet, but the connector is the same. The hard wire kit/mute button isn't really a remote but it will allow you to mute it, and to change the screen brightness from bright to completely dark. Unfortunately I don't think there is a way where you can black out all of the display, and use audio only. Hopefully I'm wrong about that, but there isn't on the r3.

Yeah, but those suction cups stand out to all the LEO's in front of you.

Hold off on the R7. Download JBV1 and pair it with your V1. It's like having a brand new detector. Takes a learning curve to set up but well worth it.

Well again the sunvisor makes it much less obvious. Plus, you don't get stopped for having a detector, except in Va. You will get stopped if you draw too much attention to yourself, like when people try and use you as a rabbit cause they can see you have a detector.
Each to their own I guess.
I prefer the blendmount and hardwired. A very solid mount. They don’t have the clip for it confirmed yet as they haven’t gotten an R7 yet. The R3 has a dark mode. It only comes on when there is a threat. I use it all the time I assume the R7 will be the same.

That's another thing I liked about the V1 - the stealth mode where the V1 unit sat up top of the A frame but all the visible lights and arrows were on the concealed remote which was out of the line of sight from behind. If the cop/signal is behind you and the R3 is in dark mode and the radar beam turns it on, won't it be visible the cop behind you?

Detectors are perfectly legal here in Oregon so I’ve never worried if a cop knew I had one. Also with all the various camera systems people mount in cars today it’s hard to tell what’s what in the windshield from any distance.
