PCV lines
I'll be installing Vararam's intake kit Friday and am posing this question. Why do the PCV lines have to be routed back into the engine? Why cant these lines be routed to under the car?
This may be a dumb question but cars ran great for years with no PCV routing back to the engine.

First the lines are not routed back to the engine, they are routed from the engine to the intake air. PCV stands for Positive Crankcase Ventilation and the air along with gases that escape beyond the piston rings into the crankcase are routed back to the intake air to be burned rather than escape into the air as environmental pollution. Yes older cars ran fine with this system but they also caused more pollution. The other problems you could run into by routing the PCV below the engine would be possibly not passing yearly inspections if your state requires pollution control inspections and you could cause a vacuum leak which may cause a check engine light. Today's engines are tuned to utilize these pollution control systems.
