I find that the most critical part of going over speed bumps is when your front wheels are up on the crest of the bump and you are on your way down. I literally creep down the rear side of the bump. The rear wheels seam to handle the clearance issues better.
Sort of depends on the speed bumps. Some of the newer ones I have seen have been a little higher and wider than the ones you normally think of. I got hung up on one of those with my C6Z when driving through a parking lot. Literally high centered the car with the bottom of the car scrapping the pavement.
My side air dams scarp slightly if driving out of my driveway too fast (ie not a very slow crawl.) They don't on speed bumps. But if I have to go very a high one I drive over at an angle.
No big deal with the air dam scraping. Don't have a center air dam on my Grand Sport (Stage 2 Aero option) and didn't on my 2014 Z51. But did on my c6 Z51 and scraped it every time I left my driveway. All I did was every year was sand the center air dam rough bottom. Easy to do.
SKID PADS
What is still more of a problem is the "skid pads." Scraped those on my C6 several times! Added FANGS from a forum vendor on my 2014 and hit them twice. No issue, no noise! In fact those than don't like the sound of the air dam scraping, it's music compared to aluminum on pavement!
I have found they hit more in a dip not a speed bump. Have several places where it has happened. One entering a mall on a back entrance. There is a dip but if I drive very slow it's OK. But I have to cross the opposite side of a two lane road AND it's around a curve. If a car is traveling very fast coming around that corner and I don't see it when i start (much faster than the speed limit) there are two choices: 1) hope the AH is not on their cell phone and will stop or 2) drive in faster than planned. Don't trust AHs so I speed up and have hit the "skid pads" or as GM calls the radiator supports.
The "skid pads" perform both functions. They don't have to hang down that low for rad supports. If you bend that thin aluminum square tubing, expensive to replace. The FANGS are made from heavy slippery plastic and the scraps I had was only on the surface. Installed on my Grand Sport and so far no scarps. Easy to install and inexpensive. Have the same dip issue when I enter a FedEx location and again if I go very slow not an issue. Not always possible!
