Preorder the Uniden R7?
Anyone preorder this thing? Thoughts? I haven't had a RADAR detector since I was in college, but I need to get back in the game...

The R7 is getting a lot of publicity, but I think it's the arrows and the single long range highway feature that are drawing all the attention. The R3 is pretty much an identical unit without directionals.
Lots of reviews rate the Escort Max 360 better for its' BSM filtering, and nothing for sale comes close to the highline reviews for the Radenso Pro-M's BSM filtering. VortexRadar has a couple evaluations of the capabilities Pro-M vs. Max360 vs. R7 and there are a couple other testers out there who say the same thing--that is, except for arrows and longest highway ranging, the R7 brings up the rear in BSM filtering.
Since I do a LOT of highway driving, I'll prolly go Radenso for the quieter ride and fewer falses (and more dependability of valid alarms). The Max360 is the worst of the three when it comes to RDDs, and if you're in states that prohibit RD, that's a big consideration.
Pro-M's BSM filter vs. Uniden R3/7 vs. Max360
How undetectable are the R3/7 vs. Max360 vs. Pro-M

What about features where the detector is tied to an app or GPS to utilize marked warning locations from other users? Is that something any or all of these do? Does it work? Like Waze? Is there a detector that works best with apps?
I drive on the freeway/interstate quite a bit as well and am not so concerned about surface street driving.

Oh, and I NEVER drive through Virginia...hate that state...
Really appreciate your reply and link!

Latest and greatest.
Software/ technology marches on.
Isn't the r7 cost near $600? V1 $400?
I am sure a used r3 would be sufficient but...
My vote is to pre-order the r7.
Good luck.

2015 C7 of the Year Finalist
My >20 year love affair with my V1 and the multitude of ~$300 upgrades every 3 years has come to an end. V1 has dropped in the sensitivity race and isn't keeping up with all the bells and whistles available on other RD units. I've placed my order with bestradardetectors.net for the R7. When it is available for release, I will be installing the R7 in the place of my V1.

Anyone using apps like Waze to augment?

Plus the r7 is an r3 with arrows apparently.
So someone would have to really love arrows I guess.

My Radenso has GPS built in, but I hardly use it. Most of my driving is highway, and local city driving is country so it's really quiet in backwards Miss'ippi. The good part about being in real country is there's so much land the shopping strips are 2-300 yards from the thoroughfares. Locally, we're fortunate to be insulated from door openers by vast parking lots in front of the stores. With the Radenso's sensitivity set correctly and a minimum speed limit set, it's real quiet in the "city". Dunno how much good GPS would help in that setting--though it was damn quiet in Springfield, MO (pop 300,000), too. Mebbe the GPS/RD speed setting worked so well there as to be unnoticed.

I'm in the same boat as the OP - Have not tried new radar detectors in years...
I don't do a lot of Highway driving and Waze is good for that, but I need something NOW since I just got my Vette Saturday. Maybe I can get a used R3 until better tech is released.
What would be good for city and suburb use? Does it really depend on what radar/laser bands each law enforcement dept uses? I am so out of the loop...

I augment my R3 with Waze and a rabbit.
How to use a rabbit:
Wait until a car passes you and then fall in behind him far enough that you can clearly see his taillights
Then when the next car passes you, fall in behind him.
Repeat this until you are traveling the speed you desire.
When the officer turns on his radar to catch the Rabbit, your R3 will go off, you can slow down and wave to the rabbit as you pass by hime while the Police Officer is pulling him over.
See the Rabbit!
Be one WITH the Rabbit!
But never BE the Rabbit!

I've done the rabbit thing for the last 20ish years and it has served well. That, and just paying attention...

Driving along one of the Interstates in GA, we came around a slight curve/hill, and saw four patrol cars in echelon on the shoulder. All using laser. As soon as the first patrol got a reading high enough for a ticket, he zoomed off and the next guy, who was also lasering everyone, could chase the next offender. Illinois State Police sometimes use one trooper on an overpass and multiple chase cars. You would need four rabbits to escape this trap, or a really good laser jammer.
Fortunately, this kind of coordination is unusual.

Escort Live will soon work with CarPlay, already does with NAVTOOL
Escort Live links with the MAX 360 and soon will be on CarPlay do the map will display on your NAV unit! Now you not only have a radar detector but also alerts posted on the map by fellow users. Now that's long distance notification.
