Default NO acceleration

Thank you in advance for your response.
I recently got a low miles 2915 C7 2lt stingray .
Great car ! But concerned with ZERO acceleration when in M (any mode) and in high gear (6th or 7th) and low speed (say. 40 mph). Even with pedal to the metal, there is no acceleration. When in D, the car is very responsive with great acceleration. Is my car or normal??
Thank you
john

You need to manually downshift with the paddles if you want more acceleration when in M.

Agree. Can recall having this same experience back when I first got my C6.

Probably just his first time driving in M mode. That is how it happened to me and I did feel a bit ridiculous afterwords.

Probably the electronics protecting from lugging the engine. With my M7 I have to be well over 60mph to accelerate in 6th and 7th. They are overdrive gears meant for a cruising speed. Not for passing.

John,

No worries, sometimes these things get the best of us. M (manual mode) should be treated just as you would treat a traditional manual gear box. You need to anticipate your need for acceleration and shift accordingly. On a highway, at 55 in 7th or 8th gear, your acceleration is very minimal at best and you will want to drop it down to 3rd to get that acceleration you are looking for to make an pass. One thing I would be aware of as a person new to vettes and paddle shifting, is not only anticipating the need for acceleration, but also how that sudden acceleration will impact traction especially on damp, wet, dew laden roads. It can get squirrelly on you if you aren't prepared for it. There are many others on here that can get into the technical details of paddle shifting and ideal shift points, but ideally you need to make yourself comfortable with the car and its/your limitations. In doing so, enjoy the new ride!

It will downshift to avoid lugging the engine while you are in a high gear, for example it would drop for 8 to 7. But it won't drop several gears quickly for a pass.

Yeah, drop it down a few gears and the acceleration should be there.

My heaven's no. I think we all have been there before with something, or other. Congratulations on the Vette. Enjoy the ride.

Play with it awhile, you'll get the hang of it quickly.

as one guy mentioned with traction control and a sudden burst of torque and acceleration...also be mindful when its cold as well. If you have the summer tire on, and it's cold (I'll say 40 and below) you can...and will, loose traction even in 4th gear. I have the manual tranny and I've spun a little without even trying in 3rd and 4th when it's cold.

Congrats on your new ride. Have fun!! You'll be an expert in no time.

Also...you may notice...you being in M mode for paddle shifts is the ONLY time your car won't go into 4 cylinder mode. I think....

You other fellas with the Auto 8 tranny....correct me if I'm wrong.

"M" stands for... shift it yourself to the appropriate gear for the situation. ENJOY!

I don’t own an A8, but to my understanding, if you want some accerercaeraltion, you can hold down the downshift paddle (rather than pressing the paddle once). The car will downshift as far as the computer will allow.

That is correct....holding the downshift paddle will downshift the car to lowest possible gear at that particular moment.

Good work! I wish more people would take this approach when responding to others, helping rather than ridiculing or making fun. Thank you sir!
