Hi everyone, my car is a 2019 Stingray without factory nav. I'm using Waze via Android Auto, and it works well. The other day my audio stopped coming through the car speakers and is plaintively squeaking from the phone inside the console. The audio control in Waze is set properly, the phone volume (galaxy 8+) is maxed. The audio control says the audio is set to the phone, but it won't let me switch to the car system option. Any ideas?
Is audio from any other apps (Amazon Music, Pandora, phone calls, etc) affected, or only Waze? If you don't normally use any of those, give them a try as a troubleshooting step and let us know.
Thanks guys. Music and the phone play properly through the car. The cord I was using was very short for the reasons quoted and almost new. As a test, I had tried the cord I'd replaced (working fine at the time of replacement) with the same results as with the new, shorter cord.
Ditto about the short cord. I bought a 3.5" cord from my local Micro Center store (online availability, too.) The short length keeps it tidy, so it's always plugged into console USB port. It's a double-sided cord, so either way "up" works.
Regarding the connectivity, I've had a similar problem in my 2018 GS, even with my "high-quality" cord. Audio play of text, text dictation, music, Google maps and/or Waze all work fine. Most phone calls are OK, but sometimes phone calls work through the handset, which is sitting inside the console on a very short cord. Like other computer stuff, I just pull over, turn the car off, then "reboot" the system by re-starting the car. I was tempted to have the dealer re-flash the program, but you've got to be careful what you wish for.
I'll be interested in other's experiences and fixes.
Android auto is quirky. I have one of those Pioneer head units in an older car, fancy big screen with android auto build in and it behaves similarly. I think the app needs some updates. They even warn you in the Pioneer manual to keep cord short or it may not work and to make sure it's the OEM or high quality. I have had to unplug phone and replug it in from time to time.. just an Android Auto problem (once you eliminate cord length and quality issues)
my cord is always plugged in. i've been few a few of them. the only one that works correctly is the original $19 cord from Samsung for my Samsung phone.
They work great and last. I've used a cables int he past that actually start cracking near the tip where you plug in your phone. Note these are USB type C as I just got a new Galaxy S10+ but there are also
Android Auto runs entirely on your phone(make sure it is up to date). Button pushes, Audio, and video(the screen you see with Icons and such) are simply "streamed/mirrored" to the in-dash display. ...meaning the display itself is pretty dumb so not much to go wrong there. This architecture puts a much heavier data and charging load on the cord. There is basically zero guarantees that the cord you use for charging is going to work. An investment in a quality short(3ft or under)is required for a solid AA experience. ...and no I don't sell USB cords for a living! . I had issues with it being "flakey" in my '19 GS and a good quality cable solved the problem. The best one to try is the one that came with your phone.

Correction: A charging (only) cable will never work on AA. You need a data cable (which also supports charging). How do you tell if you have a data cable? If you connect it to a computer and you are able to mount the cell phones filesystem to your computer such that you can transfer files, then it's a data cable.
Google map's audio does play through the car speakers. Everything works except Waze audio, which comes through the phone. Am I correct n ruling out the cable and focusing on the car as the problem?

If all the other stuff works I would assume its an issue with the Waze apps interaction with Android Auto on your phone. Maybe remove and reinstall Android auto/Waze.. The Car, as I mentioned above, doesn't really play much of a role. If you get a screen and audio on other apps the issue is most likely on the phone. ...in my opinion. Hope you get it working! These things can be frustrating!
Whenever I plug my cord in my phone automatically asks me if I want to charge only, transfer files or transfer pictures. Which do you guys select?
All I get is a popup asking if I want to allow access to the phone's filesystem. You can say Allow or Not or even not answer the prompt and AA should come up anyway.

What phone/OS are you using?
I'm running Galaxy S9 plus still on Android 8.0
The message is the exact same if I plug into a PC or laptop.
Hmmm... I thought mine always said "Do you want to allow access..." first. Anyway, I don't think it matters what you click, if at all. I think it's just a prompt that you can allow the device this is plugged into to access your files on your phone. I don't think the car is even capable of doing that. Instead, I think AA needs a data connection to move data from the phone to the car, not the other way around. Not positive about that but I've always been told you need a data cable and I have both tapped "Allow" and "Deny" to the prompt as well as not answered the prompt at all and AA still worked.
On my new S10+ AA connects really quickly and I don't even see the popup.
