As I said, good luck.
Its upsetting, but it’s an engine.....they fail. And a good dealership should be fully capable of fixing.
On a good note, like the other guy stated , it's a motor and motors can be replaced , when they gave me my car back I went over it with a fine tooth comb and everything was perfect .....
Good luck and let us know how it turns out

God forbid I have to deal with it one day I would have it towed home until it was set to be replaced or actively worked on. Did this to my G8 when the engine was blown and it wouldn't be worked on for 3 weeks.put it back in the garage with help of a friend. Told dealer no problem call me when you're ready to fix it. And they did. And I towed it in.
F leaving my car ANY of them somewhere for 4 weeks. Been down that road with my kids at the time new Jetta when it was hit. Took 4 times to get it right and then I took it home and found all kinds of scratches etc etc over next few days. Just pisses you off.
Make sure you stop in unannounced and take a look.

My point being that practically any GM dealer can successfully perform an engine swap, now preforming a successful engine tear down and put back depends on the individual dealer/tech's capabilities.

I am in the service industry also and we would never keep anyone waiting this long without at least an update on what's going on . Sounds like they have not even brought the car in ....
If it's not blown up to the point of having to be replaced then it should not take this long for the dealer to at least tell him what's going on
My car also had to be torn down and the dealer had to prepare and estimate of what it would take to repair the engine and send it in to GM for approval along with my tune files . GM in turn weighed the cost of repair verses replace . This was all done in the span of 10 days at my dealer . Even if it was repaired , in my case they said 5 days but the scratch in the cylinder wall and metal in the intake doomed the motor . Their Corvette mechanic had two other cars torn down for various large repairs and yet still found the time to work on mine .
Thru the whole process the service writer the "Corvette Mechanic " and the service manager all kept me informed as to where they were which made a bad situation just a little bit better . They even wanted me to come back for a 500 mile oil change so they could go over the car while I waited to make sure that everything was put together properly
I would not hesitate to go back to my dealer , which is close to where the OP lives because of the fantastic service I received
I wanted the OP to know that waiting 4 weeks is not acceptable
Good luck to the OP and I hope everything works out for u !
Keep us posted on the progress

However, the last sentence is a very good suggestion and not only because anyone can do it: you can stop in at lunch hour, or take off early one day before the dealership/techs go home and stop in. You'd be surprised what you can learn/see when you just wander in thru the open garage door vs. being told you can't go back there at the "service desk."
