Default Does anyone make stronger hood struts?

I put an aftermarket carbon fiber hood on my c7 and now the hood struts wont hold it open. I replaced the struts with new OEM ones and same issue.

Are there any stronger struts out there? Want to order a set ASAP!

Did the manufacturer of the hood have any suggestions? I'd start with them if you haven't already. Seems that you would not be their only customer asking for this. Hell, they should offer them with the hood or as an accessory.

I agree. I'm hoping someone has ran into this maybe even with a stock hood that they wanted more wind resistance on.

I have not been able to get any options.

Have not heard or seen aftermarket struts, but I will keep an eye out for you...

This is not a strut, but will keep the hood open

Curious how much heavier your new hood is? Maybe one of the struts got damaged during the switch.

I agree here with the OP the problem is more than not the after market hood weight is almost twice as much as the stock hood. I had the same problem on my old set up. Due to from what the place I got it from told me was they used fiberglass panels to bond the top piece to the bottom that is were the weight is coming from, I sold that hood and got a new LG full true C.F. hood and this one dont do that now... Update: I contacted Lift Supports Depot. They can find custom struts. I ended up ordering Strong Arm 6929 struts. The stock ones are 25lbs of force. These are 65lbs. I will post an update when they come in on how they work.

I feel your pain. This is the rabbit hole you sometimes find yourself stuck in when doing mods. GM does extensive testing and validation of their vehicles, way beyond what most aftermarket people can accomplish. A supplier who shipped a load of overweight hoods to GM would have found them shipped right back. In the aftermarket you're at the mercy of guys who think that a nice look trumps actual function. Let's hope your upgraded struts work out well.

BTW, this is not a hit on all aftermarket suppliers, just a reminder that you're in the realm of buyer beware.

Just got the struts on. If you are having problems with the hood staying up, I can verify that the Strong Arm 6929 struts are the answer. They work great. Strong enough to lift the hood on their own from the 1/4 open position to fully open, yet not so strong that it is hard to get the hood to start to close.
