I tried searching for a thread here that members showed off their Corvette garage to tie this question into but I couldn't find the thread. I am on my second set of retractable ceiling hung LED garage work lights. Everything I seem to buy is junk. They flicker on and off I have to hit them to make them work, etc. I'm tired of buying these lights and then having to trash them. I don't mind paying for something good. There are a lot of retractable incandescent lights out there but I want LED. Does anyone have a recommendation on a good heavy duty LED retractable work light they use in their garage on their Vette projects???
I purchased 9 LED lights from COSTCO and installed them in my garage. They made a huge impact on my ability to work in the garage. They are 4 footers and each plug into an outlet. The outlets are on a single switched circuit.
I have something similar to what Ammo has. Mine were bought at Home Depot. 4' LED. Plug in to an outlet. Chain pull. NOT expensive. 20 bucks ea. I think. I have 5.

I just bought one of these bulbs for the garage from amazon and it will be the brightest light bulb you have ever purchased for a regular sized socket. It’s incredible.
MBO E26 LED Light Bulb 80W High Power Corn Light 400-600W Equivalent 6000k Cool White 10000LM Metal Halide Replacement AC85-265V
Not exactly what you are asking for, as this one I have used for many years but I see they still sell them. Does not hang from the ceiling. I just leave it plugged in to charge on the bench and use it as needed. Don't use my old drop light anymore.
Go on to RAB Lighting and call there number they can tell you if is in the market. I as a retired Electrical Contractor have not seen a retractable LED fixture as of yet,but if you place LED lights on your ceiling you will be impressed ! I have portable floor lamps which are LED and they work great .Always remenber a light cover ceiling and wall paint will reflect the light not absorb it like a dark covered finish and that includes the floor. Also replacement LED tubes do not work as well *** LED fixtures .
Being I already had a retractable hanging incadescent work light, I chose to buy tge replaceable led head from Menards. It works very wery well, very bright, and cheaper to convert if you alreday have lights.
I already have 18 4 foot LED ceiling fixtures that I installed when I built the garage 1 1/2 years ago. Best decision I ever made going with the LED fixtures and bulbs. The hanging units that I want to replace are the two yellow ones in the picture. They are very cheap quality and don't work most of the time. You guys gave me some good ideas, thanks! I think I will purchase a couple rechargeable units and then replace just the head units on the existing retractable cords.
I am having a garage built. The electrician was here today wiring it. I told him I had four LED shop lights from Costco. Two of them will come on when the garage door opener is activated. The other two will plug into an outlet in the ceiling connected to a wall switch. He liked that idea a lot.
I replaced all my 48” and 72” fixtures in the the country club I manage with led. Mainly kitchens, back of the house and locker rooms. Just rewired and took out ballast with great success and huge light increase with a savings of $800 a month in power bil. I did about 100 4 bulb fixtures my self over 3 days 2 years ago . Not a single failure or flicker. So impressed I did my 12 fixtures in my garage and increased my lighting so much by shear brightness that a pull down light is not needed. I use a rechargeable hand held led bar light and I have a 4’ corded led tube I can lay under car on my quick jack if needed for big jobs and it has been more than enough light.
The bulbs I bought were from amazon hypercon I think was the name of the brand. I can look it up if anyone is interested.
I did the same with the Costco 4’ LED fixtures. Hung them on the side walls ala spray booth style, and they make a world of difference. Have them on a remote control switch so when I come in the back door, I hit the button and they come on. Supplements my overhead fluorescents from years gone by.
For a worklight I invested in a set of 3 Eastwood rechargables with the stand and under hood clamp. With their magnetic bases and bright light, there hasn’t been a situation where I couldn’t see what I was doing.

Is that a Honda you have in there? Just kidding! I love your collection of cars! Nice 55 Chevy! I had two 56 Chevys years ago wish still had them!! That's a good idea hanging the lights spray booth style. I think I will do that in the area of my lift that's where I primarily need the light is under the lift. Is that a real traffic light or something you can purchase online?
Thanks. The Honda Element is my wife’s. We searched for about 6 months, believe it or not, to find one that was AWD, in decent shape and wasn’t overpriced. She enjoys it.
The traffic light is a real one. Found it on my local Craig’s list. These pics were taken about 4 months ago so now I have more signage and fun stuff hanging on the walls.
The 55 is going back together as we speak. I installed a 383 stroker with a M22Z tranny and Ford 9” rear end with nodular posi and rear disc brakes. Rack and pinion steering and hydraulic clutch. That was my winter project.
Always finding ways to spend my money as my wife always says. :-)

I bought 2 of these retractables off Amazon, but they may be the cheap ones as well. Only had them for a couple of months now, so time will tell if they are durable or not. I do like them . . .

I've got two of these. Been using for a few years. LED 1000 lumens, bright, durable and convenient to use.
