It lets you know when the truck lid, hood, and doors are open. How hard would it be to have a sensor for the top?. OP, hate to hear this happened. Like others I'm in the "repair, and repaint" club. That's a beautiful top, I surely wouldn't change it out.

Why do we keep relying on the car to tell us what to do? Blind stop detectors, lane drift detectors, auto braking, auto headlights, door chimes, seatbelt chimes, TPMS, etc. This is why the corvette now weighs a whopping 3400lbs. My composite body, aluminum frame corvette should not weigh the same as my all steel unibody mustang. What ever happened to people actually paying attention to driving and their vehicle?
The Flying Roof Club has a lot of members. Are they really all a bunch of dummies, or mostly normal people who got distracted once at the wrong moment?

I have a foolproof way to avoid the flying roof club. I never took the top off my 2015 Stingray and do not plan to take it off my 2019. My short term memory is horrible so if I did remove the top, I am sure I would forget to put it back on properly.

****For the OP ..that top looks rough...It might cost you more to repair than it is to buy a slightly used one..I would get a new one through my insurance co if your deductible is low and have it painted the same good as new..sorry for the dumb luck I take my roof off daily and I cringe when I see the FRC images.

WTF? I mean really... WTF? Forgot to attach the roof? lol...Isn't that the last step in "I'm putting on the roof"?
Get roof out of trunk.
Carry roof to car
Set roof on car
Walk to other side to make sure that the seal isn't getting pinched.
Get IN car and latch the freaking roof! (see, there's that last step...)
And no, I've NEVER forgotten to close the hatch on the submarine before diving either... In fact, that's REALLY high on the mental checklist of things NOT to forget... lol..

^^^^ I've never understood why some forum members feel the need to pile on when someone makes a mistake, owns up to it, is man/woman enough to post it so that the rest of us can learn from it and they can get answers to some questions. Too bad not all of us are perfect.

Not so much the "pile on" aspect but rather the position that the car needs yet another sensor to save us from ourselves. I never can understand the "I got distracted while putting on the roof and forgot" argument. You need to unlatch the two front handles and the rear latch to take it off so it comes to pass that you need to do the same to put it back on. If you don't fold the front handles, they stick out. If you do fold them and not do it correctly, you have a large gap that will hold the edge of the top up. While I support those that simply own their mistake, don't make it a community wide issue that needs a manufacturer solution because you can't remember to put the top on correctly.

I put my boat in the water once without the drain plug in 
Thankfully I noticed it right away and practically dove overboard to fix the situation. If not it would have likely sunk, mere feet from the dock.
So yeah these things happen. Stories like this remind us to double check the latches. I've only taken my roof off a few times but stood next to it and tried to rip both sides off before driving just to be 100% sure it was truly secure.
