Well got a new smog station that's 3 min from me, but 2 star on yelp reviews said it's horrible. Another one is 15 min away they are pretty fast ,and I always go there with my other 15k car, but it's 5 min from bad neighborhoods so not very comfortable taking my vette there.
For the 2 star yelp smog station if I just follow the guy around and open the hood for him, install the obdii for him (will they let me do that) etc and let them touch the car at the minimal, should be ok ?
Smog test they just plug in the obdii and checking the readings, visual inspection under the hood, stick something in the exhaust and check the exhaust, that's all right anything else so I know and I can follow and check them around? Go to the 2 star place should be ok? What do you guys think. Reviews said they dont know how to open the hood and damaged some customers car, bad attitude, ruined something in the car like scratched the obd port or yanked it or something. But 3 min away it's so close!!!

Why would you even consider going to a place that has horrible reviews and has reportedly damaged cars they were working on? Either go to the station further away and stay with the car (or at least keep an eye on it), or find a third place that has very positive reviews for their work.
Smog test, whats that? Cali used to require that every two years, even on the diesels when they could not do a sniffer on them. I moved to Az, no smog tests here, no front plate required, none of the bs laws that cali had.
CA doesn't require a smog test for the 1st 8 years on a new vehicle. I've driven vehicles with no front plate in CA for over 25 years w/o a problem. Even went through a sobriety check point w/o a front plate.

Depends what part of Calif you live in. I just registered my cars in another county where we have a vacation home, once registered there’s no smog until ownership change.
As for front plates, hit or miss. I’ve been pulled over twice for just that. Cop was nice, fix it ticket. The thing to be concerned with in Calif are the new rules for noise and visual inspections for missing smog by cops. Let’s say your car is a tad loud, as defined by cop, and he pulls you over. Let’s say you’re running no Cats. It’s an instant impound and a high fine. Cop buddy of mine with CHP says they are on maximum enforcement on these points.
then there is the effort by Calif liberals to impose an annual fee/ tax, retro back 10 + years, on any vehicle that has 500 + OEM horsepower.
And people wonder why the 1% are leaving this cluster f*ck of a state, including myself.

Worthless reply of no value or help to the OP. Nice job!
To the OP, go to the higher rated facility during the day. Don't risk going to the closer but low rated station or your next thread will be, "Help, The Smog Station Damaged My Car"!
