2LT/3LT Kalahari dashboard question
I am thinking about ordering a C7 in my dream configuration. I am waffling on the 2LT vs 3LT due to the reports of dash problems with the 3LT. Also over in the Z06 forum, Anyone have the 2LT Kalahari?
I have read the threads, but was wondering if it related to storage conditions or is it a random occurrence. In my situation the car would almost never be out in the sun, garaged when home, and stuck in the garage for about 5 months anyway due to the annoying MN winters. Part of the consideration is that it's really hard to trust my dealer to replace a dash if needed, even if it was under warranty.

I can’t answer your question about issues with the 3LT dash, but I just found out GM is now putting the leather strip on the dash (in front of the steering wheel) on 2LT models. Not sure when they made that change, but it wasn’t on my ‘16 2LT Z51. Reason I just found out is because I just traded in my ‘16 on a ‘19 2LT GS. Here’s a pic of the dash. I personally don’t like that strip and wish GM hadn’t made that change. In any case, sure hope I don’t have any issues with that.

^^^nice! Same trade I am considering too, a 16 on a 19. I would'nt worry, from what I have gathered from threads here and on the Z06 forum, the 2LT/2LZ have not had any problems.

I factory ordered my 2019 GS just to get the Kalahari Interior with Elkhart Lake Metalic Blue - seemed like a combination I was never going to find on a dealer lot. I actually like the Kalahari over the instrument cluster but to each their own. I couldn't have too much of the Kalahari interior, but I didn't want to fork out for the 3LT and didn't want to worry about possible dash separation and such.

Thanks! It’s a good time to buy with the big discounts and $3K loyalty rebate. I got my ‘19 through MacMulkin and highly recommend them (2nd time I’ve bought through them). Good luck with your purchase.

I have a 15 3LT with the full kalahari over the entire dash-only for 2014 and 2015 years- and I also do not keep the car exposed to be sun. I have no issues with my dash peeling. The 14s and 15s look like kalahari with black trim, while 16s and up look more like black with kalarari trim.

Exact same as yours. '17 Vert with 20K miles. No issues. The difference between 2LT and 3LT in terms of trim application is now minimal. I believe the only difference is the addition of glove box trim on the 3LT. Of course, the claim is different materials, but it looks damn near identical.

Mine is a 3lt Kalahari garage kept with solar shade when parked. I've had the dash replaced once already at 22,000 miles and it looks like it's delaminating again 4000 miles later. probably best just to stay way from 3lt.

I was surfing around on the OEM parts places on line, and saw something about the dash part number being superseded.
Hopefully that was to correct the problem that is occurring.

No problems with my ‘14 3LT (black interior) dash after 50,000 miles. I have tinted windows including the windshield. I also live in a moderate climate (Michigan). To be on the safe side, I did just buy a solar sunshade after becoming aware of the 3LT dash issues a few months ago. My car being a convertible, I would guess it doesn’t get as hot inside as a coupe with that big near horizontal glass hatch and I’m guessing the cloth top does a better job of letting heat escape through the roof.
