Awhile back a lot of C7 owners were Plasti-dipping their wheels. My question is how did the Plasti-dip hold up? Did any of it come off in the wash? Does it still look as good as the day you applied it? Any hints for proper application? Just wondering here....
Haven't done it on my GS, but have on other cars. Contrary to the previous opinions, it's pretty easy to do and get good looking and long lasting results. I've also never had a problem taking it off. Granted, the dust produced by the stock pads might be an issue...
It's also a great way to try a color to see if you like it before spending the time and $$ for powder coating.
Short answer - it's a car, and your car. Do what you want 😁
This wheel was originally a pearl nickel, but, here it is after black plasti-dip, then gloss plasti-dip, then adding the red stripe.
However, it has not played out as well as I predicted it would. This is primarily due to lots of brake dust, and, I want to keep the red stripe, which prevents me from simply re-applying a new coat. Also, if I attempt to clean off the brake dust, it appears the wheels lose a marginal amount of the plasti-dip.
I'll try to get some relevant current pix this weekend, and, post them here.
Here are the current pix. The plastidip has been on for over 2 years. Up close, it definitely does not look good, but at any distance, I like it. However, it is getting worse, so I just bought the “dip remover” product (to make it extra easy to get it all off).
PROTIP: if you do dip yur wheels, any unlikely issue with a wheel may be hidden, so leave the air pressure screen displayed in the DIC.
Actually, for a 2 year dip job on wheels, and considering the stupid about of brake dust our cars put out, that's held up better than I expected. I've never gone longer than 3 - 6 months, by that time I know whether or not I like the color and either remove/change it up or get powder coat.
It looks great - for a short while. Then you peel it off, and you start over with a new color. Or the same one. That's why its called peel paint.
If you drive your car like I do, it lasted for about 3 months. I don't give a **** about it looking perfect, as I drive 700 miles a week, so when I get to it, I may change it to another color to go back to stock.

I agree on all of the above first few coats very lite then just keep going over that way until all the rim is covered..
One more thing… the side marker lights had 2 coats of plasti-dip applied before the wheels had 5 coats of plasti-dip. This illustrates that the brake dust is #brutal. Even the front marker light appears to be marginally darker than the rear marker light, as if, the brake dust lightened the rear marker light.
On a related note… WTT 2 pearl nickels for 2 black w/ red stripes #hehe
