Just noticed today that my steering effort setting no longer seems to work. If I go to Settings->Drive Mode->Steering, I have it set to "Tour". This should mean that the steering effort is set to "Tour" regardless of my drive mode. However, when driving, if I change the mode to "Track", the steering effort immediately increases. This setting used to work. I did get the Magnetic Ride Control software upgrade. I'm wondering if that might have broken this setting. Anyone else with a 2017 GS that had the MRC update applied able to confirm if your steering mode override setting works or not?
I have a 2017 GS and had the update done a couple weeks ago. I have not tried the settings you mention, but I will tomorrow when I drive to work and let you know.
Ok.... so I gave this a try and you may be on to something. When I set the steering to lock on Tour and then put the car in track mode, it certainly did seem to require more effort with the wheel. I could tell a difference when switching from tour to track.
Bummer. Can someone with a non-GS model that had the MRC upgrade also test this? Obviously a dealer won't be able to fix it, but issue should be reported to GM. I'd think this a warranty issue.
I have a base 2017 Stingray. I had the mag ride upgrade done last summer. If I manually set the steering mode in the infotainment settings screen, it stays in the setting I chose regardless of the setting selector mode I choose on the console. So if I manually set the steering to Tour, and put the mode selector to Track on the console, I still get the Tour mode steering feel.
Edit: I went out today and tried this out again and to my surprise when I put the car steering in Tour mode in the infotainment screen, and then selected Track mode from the console, my steering goes into Track mode. I stand corrected.
17 GS, Confirmed that mine does the same thing. Fails to maintain the selected tour steering mode when changing the center mode selector to track. Although, the tour mode steering is way to loose for any kind of quality hard driving anyway. IMO, It may be broke but driving in track mode with tour steering seems a little sketchy. I can see track steering in tour mode though.
My Stingray M7 was done last year. I immediately noticed a loosening of the steering in Tour. I switched it to Sport in the settings screen and that fixed it. it stays in Sport no matter what, which is exactly what I want. NPP is set to permanent Track mode. The suspension is much improved over rougher roads. I am quite satisfied.

I own a ‘16 z but ASSUME other models work same. Make sure your drive modes aren’t set Linked to Steering mode. You can set Steering Mode to be completely independent of Drive Modes using the car’s settings thru the Infotainment Screen. PS: I had the MRSC done.

To be clear, this is not a malfunction. Track mode is an override mode, in that the steering and throttle delink from the drive mode selector and are driven by a separate track map that's hidden to the driver.
I get why it was done that way, but wish that I had more control.
I'm not referring to the track competition mode. At any rate, what is the point of setting the steering to "tour" instead of "auto (mode selector)" if the mode selector always controls the steering effort? Again, I'm referring to the setting Settings->Drive Mode->Steering.
I don't have Android carplay since I have a 2014 vette and I have an Android cellphone which I use Google Play Music to play my albums but you need to touch Recents on the app to select your albums !!! I loaded my cellphone with songs from my computer !!!
