Does anyone know who makes the vinyl for the OEM C7 hood stingers as ordered from the factory? Is it 3M or maybe Avery? Both are big suppliers of vinyl wraps etc.
Wrap vs die-cut vinyl are kinda two different animals. I haven't identified what exact material they are using for OEM, it's on the thick side. I'd put money on it being an Oracal or 3M product though.
If you're going to do this install yourself, I recommend going more of the wrap method using something relatively easy like an Avery SW900, with 3M knifeless tape. Lay the knifeless tape around the body line, lay the wrap material (which is much more forgiving than super-sticky cut vinyl), and then cut the excess. You can find some youtube videos on it. If you're going to get a precut vinyl for it, that works fine too, but need to really evaluate your experience with this stuff first. It's not quite as easy to stretch, heat, and manipulate to get it to lay flat without bubbles, especially when your edges are already precut.
If you have the factory exposed top, have a reputable shop do stinger in a say Vivvid glossy carbon or maybe the 3m... the factory stinger is kind of dull like a carbon flash matt finish... Just my 2 cents Knifeless is way to go for sure
I do have to say, on my Hayabusa I have real Carbon Fiber Twill frame covers. I used vivvid carbon fiber to wrap the small part of frame that was exposed and damn.. you would have to get like an inch away to tell the real carbon from the vivvid. Even then you would be hard pressed to tell. I know for my experience using it as an actual wrap like a frame it's simply amazing stuff . I do not have any experience how it would be on a hood when used as the stinger.. but the stuff has been great for me.

Reason: grammar

After many hood episodes with knifeless, to be on the safe side make your starting point at both ends of the vinyl. And, when going with the wet approach be careful the vinyl movement doesn't dislodge the knifeless tape.... very difficult to reset at this stage of the game, can easily ruin your project.

This is what I used on my hood. Good quality material that fit perfectly and very easy install using the wet method. The carbon flash matches the hood louvers perfectly. https://www.ebay.com/itm/2014-2015-2...-/381647642113
