While trying to learn my new GS, I attempted to open the trunk with the metal key. Owners manual says to put the key in the slot near rear license plate and turn to open the trunk. Did that, clicking noise from gas door, no other indication the key was being turned. Anybody know what I'm doing wrong?
It's pretty straight forward. If it is not working you are not applying enough pressure when turning, or it is defective and need to visit the service department.
I have not used the key, but right next to the keyhole is a rubber electric switch that you can open the trunk by simply tapping/pressing - but you likely already knew that.

I turned the key in both directions with quite a bit of force. In one direction it would only move about 1/8th of an inch, in the other direction it turned a good quarter turn then stopped, that's the direction I heard the gas door click. I'm familiar with the operation, same as my C6. It's going to the dealer tomorrow morning to finish some post purchase issues, so I'll bring it up then.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'm familiar with the rubber covered button. That is how I usually open the trunk. My issue is I was trying to learn the car and make sure everything I paid for works. I will mention this to the dealer tomorrow.
It also could be the wrong physical key. If you arent the original owner, the previous owner may have replaced the key fob with a used one from another car and the actual key is incorrect. Do you have a second fob and have you tried that key?

I'm the original owner. It's a 2019 GS convertible, just at 600 miles. Since it's going back to the dealer again to finish up a couple of pre-purchase items I thought I would go over as much of the car as I can.
I'm going to start another thread about this car and the trials and tribulations of getting it in satisfactory condition after I get it in satisfactory condition. It is turning out to be more aggravating than I thought. For a really expensive car, at least for me, I didn't find the manufacturing quality or the dealer quality to be what I expected. But that's for another another thread.
I was the original owner of a 2013 GS convertible and after I took delivery I was checking all of the functions at home and discovered that the trunk lock would no open with the key. Took it to the dealer and they cut another key based on the VIN and found out that didn't work either. Turns out that the lock cylinder installed at the assembly plant didn't match the VIN. The dealer installed a new lock and key set.
