Depends on what you mean by "dosent cost a lot of money".

Correct the "amp" in this car is also a processor so its not a straight foward swap like in the old days. Also not sure how much more power the stock speakers will take. The whole system is kind of cheap and crappy compared to decent aftermarket audio gear.

Witty, but look at the word again...
OP, the Bose speakers are 2 ohms, so you have to be careful when adding aftermarket amps. Some have added a separate sub/amp, which can be done without costing too much, but anything more involved can get costly.

You can find threads where folks added sound systems BUT expensive. As noted the Bose speakers are low impedance AND most have their own amps. Can't even easily get a signal to add an amp and subwoofer.
It can be done but not simple. Even the 3LT C6 did not have a rear subwoofer. I find the rear subwoofer in my 3LT and now 2LT C7 very effective. However about 10 to 15% of the >1000 songs from a thumb drive I have playing 95% the time in shuffle mode are too Boomy! Had to lower the volume which defeated my main objective, drowning out the very high tire and road noise! That's with the roof on- seldom drive with it off!
After 4 years of posting the problem, someone showed a way to adjust balance, bass level with a push of a "recall button." Made this pic/text PDF of How To, as just words are difficult to follow, FWIW: http://netwelding.com/Boomy_Bass.pdf

Yep lots here of have done various upgrades. The BOSE is an integrated system, thus its hard to replace just one part (speakers or amp) and get decent results.
If you just want louder your looking at 7 to 9 channels of amplification needed. Now this could be simplified by just adding power to the right & left dash and door speakers with a 4 channel system. This way you leave everything as is, just add a powerful 4 channel amp that has high level inputs between the factory amp (which is junk) and the factory speakers. It will be louder... but not necessary better given how the Bose amp processes the signal. If you want it done right then you'll have to pretty much gut everything (except the headunit) and start over.
