Pro cop is a clamp style instillation, basically wedges between the trim on the passenger grab handle. I highly recommend it. I have tried 3 different mounts and this is the only one I have found to work well with my iPhone xsmax.
I'm using the mount with my Pixel2 XL. It works well and doesn't move around. It is a little expensive for what you get. I got mine on Ebay at the same price. I also considered the Weather Tech CupFone mount. I may still give it a try.
I just ordered the Proclip for my Iphone X. Expensive, but I think the best option. I had a cell phone holder from a corvette company that uses a magnet that you attach one part to your dash and the other part being a round sticky disk to the phone or the case. The problem for me was two fold, the disk came off a couple of time off the case and the phone had to be removed to charge it on one of those flat chargers. Using a cord to charge was Ok but the disk got hot doing it the other way. I was afraid of a fire so I had to take it out of the case to charge the phone using the flat charger. This Proclip takes care of all those problems. I also ordered from amazon a plug that fits into the cigarette lighter with USB, then bought a short cable to use with the phone to charge>

I'm leaning towards the Weather Tech CupFone as well - then I can use it in any of my vehicles.
Unless one has an earlier MY C7 before Android Auto/CarPlay arrived in 2016, I don't know why anyone uses a phone mount since things changed dramatically last Fall when both Google Maps and Waze made their apps compatible. My phone now stays plugged in behind the center screen, and I have everything usable while driving on the center screen.
I did use one on my '14 simply because Waze is so much more superior than the factory nav, but after taking delivery of an '18, my phone mount was retired, and Waze is on my center screen. I also really like the fact that my text messages are read to me, and I can dictate a response all without taking my eyes off the road or hands off the wheel. Siri is great for almost any common function on the phone.
Just did the pro clip with a ram ball and an x grip...
Seems secure but if you bump it it will come off the grab handle. I've made sure it's secure in the gaps. I think having the ram ball setup puts more leverage in it than it was designed for.
Besides that I love the mount and the position it puts the phone in.
Problem with SOME cupholder mounts in our cars is that it interferes with movement of gearshift (especially M7) & also has to be tilted away from you to clear center console lid being opened. Just my experience using one. I went back to simple opening lid of cupholder & laying phone in on it's edge. It's secure (won't slide around), but of course if your Big Gulp is there-OOPS!
I got this one. Not only does it works great it sits just below the windshield field of vision so you glance at it without taking your eyes off the road.
