A good quora suggestion for the inevitable. Follow the LEO Instruction. Let the conversation drift to your intent to revisit this wonderful locale to attend the court hearing for the ticket. Advise that you intend to request a jury trial for the offense as is the right of every American citizen. Only the coldest-hearted donut murderer is going to look forward to those court days and not let you off with a warning.
Or, (before I read the Quora post) just show up on your first court date from out of state "Is Officer Jones present?" "Sorry your honor he left early." "Case dismissed"
I had a near miss recently. I was going the posted interstate speed limit and my Escort 360 went off indicating Ka band radar. Just 100 yards past the crest of the hill I was topping, there he was. The Escort did not see over the hill and I was on his screen before I could even slow down. Bet that dude knew exactly the spot to sit. But, like I said I was going the legal limit at the time so no harm.
That's not a near miss. That's doing something legal.
A near miss is doing 15-20+ over the speed limit, getting the hit, and shutting it down toot-suite before the cop could get a fix on you.
I feel rather fortunate as I have evaded actually getting pulled over. Pulled onto the Hwy and zoomed up to and well over speed limit very quickly. Suddenly my RD starts screaming. Look in my rear view. There's a Trooper right on my tail. Damn. Pull to right lane and slow down. He goes past slowly and heads off. I'm pretty sure it was my DV plates that saved me.
I pulled up to a stop sign behind a police car. He had his radar on and I could see the speed indicator. The shopping mall across the street was doing 35.
Similar experience. A Leo saw me coming from a distance, and I saw him as well. He pulled behind me a tailed me for a mile or two. Then sped up and disappeared from my view. Few miles letter, I spot him in the side of the road point a radar gun on me.
Last week driving back from the track, I was tailed twice by cops. I always adhere to speed limit going and coming back from the track, which is painfully 35 - 55 miles limit.
I am very annoyed by Leos treating us differently. I pretty much don't enjoy driving my Vette on public roads any longer. I stick to speed limit, while no one else does. And everyone passes my and gave me the look.
It is not uncommon to see someone pulled over after a track day. Usually a younger person who still think they are on the track.
Youre out on the track all day, hard to adjust. No matter what the speed limit I set the cruise control for the ride home. Helps me save $
…. Couldn't have been more wrong! He tailgated me for about a mile and then moved into the driving lane about 3 lengths behind and paced me about 4 more miles before taking an exit. About a 1/2 mile more and my detector goes off again. There he is behind me once again and paced me a couple more miles before giving up the chase. I thought it funny he could of made a few bucks from the van instead of wasting his time on a law abiding citizen.

I would be happy he didn't mistakenly write you a ticket for the other guy's speeding by you. I had a radar team do that to me some years ago.

Hmm, when I drove my pick-up on the 17 miles on I95 to work, my detector seldom went off traveling 10 over the limit. With my Vette it went off all the time from a trooper coming the other way, with cruise control at 5 over. Now that I'm retired for 19 years, only take the Vette to town on back roads where I pass many farm fields. The corn and cotton don't care how fast I drive!
I live off of a 4 lane divided highway where folks come off I95 going to Myrtle Beach. There is a 45 mile section to an otherwise 60 mph limit. Often see a two team approach! Once passes coming in the opposite direction so folks think "no more troopers." Then in the 45 mph section, another coming that way and triggers his radar!
Perhaps the strangest one that happened was when their were some 20 troopers in unmarked, confiscated SUV's with blacked out windows in a drug interdiction effort they have periodically near the intersection of RT20 and I95. Can go to Southern FL on I 95 and Texas on I 20 without hitting a stop light! Saw one helicopter overhead, which they often use. Did not think much about it but was exiting 10 miles South of RT 20 where that effort stops. Had cruise control as usual set at 5 over the limit. Went out the exit at that same speed, with no traffic. All of a sudden saw what I thought must have been a huge bird shadow on my hood! It was the shadow of a helicopter following me on the long exit! Was not stopped but bet that trooper had Vette envy!

If they used radar and not laser you should able to go to court and bring documentation that radar is going to return the speed of the larger vehicle. A van's cross section is larger than a Corvette's. My dad did that to get rid of a radar based ticket while he was being passed by a semi truck. Course it depends on if the judge is an asshat or not.
Gotta love the term "Speed Trap". No, you were not "trapped", it was self inflicted.
Yeah, unless they are sitting at the bottom of a long hill where the township drops the limit from 55 to 30 or something, then I think it's safe to say it's fairly scummy. They do that sort of stuff to catch out of towners unwares and skim a travellers tax off the highway.
minivans are darn near invisible to cops. I had one for a few years. i coulda been that driver. Set the cruise to 10,15,20 over, it didn't seem to matter. The LEO would pull over the sporty car or blingy truck I just blew by.
I quite using a detector in the minivan, it didn't matter

So you are aware of the reduced speed limit but feel you were trapped? The out of towners didn't see the speed limit sign? Just before I retired I qualified for a new toaster, the wife loved it, called it the Speed Trap toaster.
I see there are a few retired Cops on the forum and I am one of them. Isn't it great that we now can afford a Corvette. I didn't mind someone going a few miles over the speed limit and usually gave them 8-10 miles over before I stopped them. The exception was in school zones, then you get it for going over the speed limit. I must say that I have wanted to see how fast I could go in my Vette on the interstate but just about the time I do, for sure there will a cop waiting for me. The term COP by the way actually stems from an old English term meaning Constable On Patrol. See you learned something.
