Hi,
Does the splitter just fit into the screws that are already there under the front end?
Just take screws off. Slip in and replace the screws?
Also, there are two choices of styles?
Cost of the part?
Did anyone do this and have advice and pics of the style they selected?
Thanks

I think stage 1 is screws only. Stage 2 & 3 are screws plus rivets.

My GS stage 1 poverty splitter has been riveted on by the dealer during pre delivery.

I seem to remember using a few rivets and the existing screws when I installed the poverty splitter on my base 15.

Your choices are the poverty splitter for just over $125 or the carbon fibre one that costs a small fortune.

Available from GM or one of the after market vendors on this site.

The install wasn't very hard. Lift the front up a bit to make it easier to get at.

Stage 1 uses screws and rivets - mine came with them in the box. I did not use all the rivets in the install as the splitter was nice and secure without them.

Dumb question, what does a splitter do? Just for looks or what?

^^ JJ, it is for aesthetic purposes. But technically, it's supposed to help direct airflow and help create downforce too.

I got mine from C7 Carbon. It used the existing bolts. Installed in less than half an hour.

I bought my poverty splitter used. Used the 12 (I think it was) factory screws. It was very easy and felt reasonably secure. I decided to also drill right through the rivet holes in the splitter (1/4” bit). Picked up the plastic push-pin “rivets” at Lowe’s which easily popped right in. Very secure now:

Good luck — nice, cheap, easy mod.

Installed RPI, used existing and added additional screws too, pretty easy.

FWIW, this is my "How to install" on my 2014 Z51: http://netwelding.com/CF_Splitter.pdf

Lots of pics and what they do. Don't be afraid of rivets, better than plastic Scrivets some use and only need a small hole! I bought the smallest Scrivets but too large a hole for me.GM uses rivets. In fact you'll see I use fender washers under the standard rivets but you can buy the ones like GM uses pretty cheap- just not from GM! (I supplied a pic, just google, you'll find them.) If for whatever reason you want to remove then, the center pin drills out. Also a small hole!

This is a pic of my Carbon Fiber splitter I installed on my Z51 purchased from C7 Carbon. They have many types. One that is painted carbon flash made from fiberglass in $550 while the GM splitter I have on my Grand Sport is carbon fiber painted carbon flash- much more expensive. It came with my full length side shirts in the Stage 2 Aero option that cost $2995. More if bought outright.

Lots of other vendors.

it also provides some protection from doing something dumb like hitting the curb with the front fascia when parking, instead you hit a $100 piece of plastic that is easily replaceable.

not that i've ever done that before....

This How To on the first few pages shows the research I did as to "what they do."
http://netwelding.com/CF_Splitter.pdf

Here is even more data on the function of an air dam: http://netwelding.com/Air_Dam.pdf

It includes a real life example of what I accomplished by adding a combo air dam and splitter to my 260Z in the mid 1970's with lift and downforce data!

Hi, an additional question about the front splitter install.

I see that you remove the two side air dams before the splitter install, but do you put them back on or just leave them off?

I thought the air dams were there to move air around the wheels, so this the reason for my question.

Thanks,
Randy

They came installed with my Grand Sport Stage 2 Aero Option that has the Stage 2 Winglets. I replaced those with Stage 3 Winglets and left them on.

In addition to diverting some air around the high drag wheel well opening they provide an early warning the next thing to hit are the GM radiator supports that also act a "skid pads." If you ever hit those aluminum tubing "skid pads" on pavement, makes the air dam scaping sound like "music!

Agree.... But.... I had the same poverty splitter on my 14 Z51 (trying it out on my lowered girl before purchasing a carbon one) Had a brief two wheels off track last event, the grass had not been cut there in a while, so it was about 6 inches tall. The splitter (Not riveted at this time) pulled loose from four screws and was bent back and drug on the ground.
I would suggest all to use the rivets...

Thanks, Jerry.

I had planned to reinstall the air dams but have never seen them mentioned/shown in videos or install descriptions I have seen or read. I just wasn't sure what was proper.
