Default Fram Extra guard PH10060 oil filter on C7 Z06 work?

My neighbor who previously owned a c6 zo6 gave me about 6 Fram oil filters because he had them and sold his car. Was wondering if anybody in here uses them? Would they work on a c7 zo6?

I use AC Delco filters in my Vette, but I have used Fram filters on other cars. They seemed to do a good job on those vehicles.

I have used Fram filters (air & oil) off and on for nearly forty years now. I know they are accused of being cheap or inferior, but I have never had a single issue with any of them. I have never changed the oil myself (yet) on my Corvette - as the first three "free" oil & filter changes were done by the dealership. They only use the factory-spec (AC) blue ones.

I will be doing the next oil change myself and will likely use either an AC or a Fram. Just do it within the correct interval and keep your receipts. No reason why you should not be okay. If you are squeamish about Fram, there is always Wix, Mobil-1 or even K&N.

I cannot get past the video showing Wix and Fram filters being cut open and rolling out the filter material. Fram looked very cheap and I will never ever touch one. But, that is just me. The big box discount stores sell them by the truck load. Maybe the reason they sell them is they are cheap to wholesale.

Then when you have a $70+ thousand dollar machine with a high performance engine why on earth would you take a chance on saving a dollar on a friggin oil filter? Give me a break.

I have taken numerous auto tech courses over the years. Every single instructor I have had said you should use the OEM filters for your cars or trucks and I always have. There are some good after market filters out there but I would not use a Fram filter in a $100 lawn mower.

Throw the Frams in the trash. Use AC Delco or a NAPA Gold (Wix) filter.

NO, the correct application Fram oil filter for the C7 is PH12060.

As far as quality of Fram Filters, I've sold them (probably a few hundred thousand, if not more) along with a couple other filter brands in my auto parts stores over 16 years and never had a single warranty issue that I can remember. So IMO there's nothing wrong with Fram filters in spite of the BS you read on the Internet. We also serviced quite a few fleets that used them without issue.

Now having said that, I always try to use OEM filters in my personal vehicles, so it's PH64 for my 17 GS Vert.

Use OEM oil filters, the Z06 has a specific bypass pressure in the PF64 Filter. Few in the aftermarket have the correct bypass valve for the Z06 engine, or for that matter the Dry Sump engines. Just think if one of those Fram filters causes a engine failure, it is possible they could deny a warranty, use OEM, don't go cheap on a oil filter, it does a very important job.

There are several threads on bypass specs here and after reading them all I'm not convinced that using the lower-spec filter (16 psi) on a C7 an issue for street use and given the owner warms the engine prior to spirited, high-RPM driving. I have a Fram XG-10060 (16 psi) left over from my C6 days and am still debating on whether to use it for my next oil change coming up later this year. What bothers me is that my car is still in warranty and as Belvin suggested it would probably be prudent to stay within factory specs for things like filters, oil, etc. All that said, if I go out an buy a filter for my C7 it will be one with the correct bypass spec like the Fram XG12060.

As for Fram inferiority, I believe that is based on a few internet reviews performed many years ago, and the XG (Ultra with synthetic media) is now considered one of the best filters on the market, if not the best. Check the oil filter forum at bobistheoilguy.com for more on the XG filters. FWIW I used the low-end Frams in my Euro sport sedans for years and never had a problem. Today I only use synthetic filters.

Questions please...

Given that there is such little significant difference in cost between any of the various brands of oil filters, what are the reasons the factory recommended original equipment oil filter quality or reliability is questioned?

Is there a definitive source that proved it is not necessarily of high quality, or that another brand is superior to the factory equipped recommend oil filter for our cars?

My point exactly. Why on earth would anyone take the risk of not using an OEM oil filter in absence of definitive proof they are inferior? This is a very dumb idea in my not so humble opinion.

I have always used Fram filters (oil & air) without any issues..........and they used them in our patrol cars when I was a deputy sheriff eons ago - no problems at all. That being said, maybe I'll just get an AC or a NAPA filter when I do the next oil change on my Corvette. I want to make sure I NEVER have any warranty issues. That was a good point from the last member to post about it.

The next oil change will be the first one done by me - since the first three "free" ones were done by a dealership (AC filters used).

Kevin is correct, the newest Fram for the C7 is the PH12060 (or better yet the Ultra XG12060) The PH10060 was what Fram used to specify for the C7, but it's got a lower than ideal bypass setting (9-15psi), the new 12060 versions have a higher 19-25psi setting that GM prefers.
