Default Uniden R3 vs R7

Looking for a new Radar detector and asking if anyone has any experience with the new R7? Is it worth the extra $$$ over the R3? I am also looking at the new escort IXC.

Thanks

Can't speak to the R7 but I have an R3 and I love it

MUCH better than my trusty ol' Escort 9500ix in sensitivity, ability to be customized, etc.

It does pick up laser but never by a radar detector for laser, they are not good at it and they just tell you that your getting a ticket if your going over the PSL..The Valentine 1 is way better at picking up laser but the R3 and R7 crush it in detecting radar, the whole reason to buy a "radar detector"

Vortex has done testing on the R7 and it is getting better detections than the R3 https://www.vortexradar.com/2019/04/...360c-pro-m-v1/

I leave mine on and actually have video of a laser hit on my R3..

R7 is better than the R3. The R7 performed better and it has directional arrows like the V1. A radar detector that tells you of Laser is simply informing you that you are about to get a ticket if you were speeding. NO RADAR detector will help you against laser. They simply say "you've been got"!

But to be clear, it does tell you of an interception of a laser beam.

I passed my V1 along to my son and got the R7. Works rather well in my opinion. Waiting for the Blendmount to come out for it to get a solid mount under the mirror.

The R7 is better than the R3 but not by a large margin. Check out Vortexradar.com for good reviews. If you shop around the R3 can be purchased for $275 w/Free Shipping (Rakuten.com and BuyDig.com). That's half the price of the R7!

I kept with the V1 for the directional arrows. WHen the R7 came out with arrows and superior detection capability, I got the R7. I did DF work in the Army back in 63-66 and I had to have my arrows for direction of the threat.

I like the R3#, no experience with the R7. If I recall correctly, I think @Sixgun95 recently installed it.

Buy the latest and greatest within your budget. If the R7 is a consideration, get it! I have both and much prefer the R7.

I have an r3. Works great. R7 is a little better and nicer with the arrows of course but not 300 dollars nicer imo. That's why I didn't upgrade. Not worth the extra money to me.

The biggest threat when you are speeding in a serious way is instant on radar. The r7 wont be any better than the r3 in an instant on event.

The last time I installed a radar/laser detector was a K40 in a 2012 Aston Virage and it worked well. The best part was that it provided ample warnings and was concealed. So, I'll ask...

Is there a reason that the posters on this thread are not fans of the K40?

I have the R3 mounted under my rearview mirror (Blendmount with direct wiring) and I love it.

It has proven to be very reliable, and has saved me several times.

It's so good that I don't care if the R7 is a little better, plus, I believe that the R7 is bigger, and I like the small size of the R3 under my mirror.

The people stating the following are correct:
When the screen lights up and you hear the laser warning on your radar detector is in reality just a notification that you are going to get pulled over and cited for speeding. You need a laser jammer system such as a AL Priority. Costly. I have the system and it does work. But......No laser in my part of the country. 99 percent Ka and 1 percent K. I moved to my current location two years ago. My previous residence had a full arsenal of laser and it was a nice experience. I use the detectors and the jammer as entertainment and essentially obey the speed laws unless I'm in a no brainer zone where I can open it up. Been a gadget nut since I was a kid.

Picked up an r7 today and have been running r3 since it came out. I’ll pass the r3 on to my girlfriends car that has been running uniden lrd950. After I run the r7 for a bit i’ll Revisit and let you all know what I think.
