I never really paid it too much attention to the traffic alerts that silence the radio. I thought it was just the WAZE on my phone. The other day I forgot the phone and it still gave me reports on accidents or construction. I don't to onstar so I'm wondering if the nav system is doing it......
Traffic alerts on your NAV come via XM/Sirius. That's a fact
But I don't have an XM subscription so not sure why I'm getting traffic alerts. When I get the alert and click on view it opens my vehicle navigation system.

The traffic and weather on the nav system come through XM. It is not necessary to have a music subscription to receive these. You might want to check a CC bill or call XM to find out if you are getting billed for that. They may have held over from the "free" trial period? Or the previous owner is still paying for it?

I bought the car new last November and never signed up or provided a credit card number. I know I can't get any music on the XM channels so they must be giving me the traffic alerts for free because I have never been charged for anything.

On my Mercedes In major metropolitan areas all the services come alive, (traffic & weather and other apps) because its transmitted via radio
I don't subscribe to XM. But during free events they do, the services of traffic and weather become active everywhere.

You get 1 year XM for free with the 2LT upgrade

Mine ('19 2LT GS) says that but in addition (under the 2LT list):
XM Radio + 9 ADD'L months subscription
I stand corrected. Mine says that also. Now I wonder why I don't have access to XM stations. Maybe because I never activated it when I bought the car. I never activated On Star either.

I love XM/Sirius. When my free time expires, I WILL re-up
(and yes, you do need to activate it)
