Just took delivery of my brand new GS today which I purchased from out of state. The dealership is handling all the registration for me here in Texas but advised they need a VIN Verification from me before they can complete the registration paperwork. I assume they are talking about an inspection as we do in Texas but was wondering if anyone could clarify this for me?
You need to check with Texas DMV. Many states require that when you purchase a car from out of state that you present the vehicle to the state Highway Patrol for VIN verification ( The VIN on the Title or MSO (Manufacturer's Statement of Origin) matches the car) before they will issue a state title and registration.
In Oklahoma we have to take the car to the DMV and have them verify the VIN in person and fill out the form, cost me $1.50 ... Just emailed the dealer a copy and was good to go ...

Thanks for your help!
I've done this twice now...
Just take the car to have the emissions check done. It was easy for me to just drop the car at the dealer, have them do the check and then email the PASS inspection paperwork back to the dealer. This way they know the car has been inspected in Texas and can proceed with the plate/registration process.
Oh, and don't be surprised when you get a registration sticker for 1 year only, unlike most new cars sold here that are valid for 2 years. You bought outta state, only good for one year.
Congrats on the new ride! The last two vehicles I bought out of state, 2011 Porsche Spyder and 2016 Z06 just needed the inspection to get them registered. I’m in Comal County and we don’t have emissions testing. The Porsche was private party and the Z06 new from a dealer...of course you’ll owe the tax.
