If you have HUD there are 3 speedometers.

There is no real reason. C7 was a relatively early adopter of using a configurable LCD screen. I think they kept the analog Speedo for those that like it. I never look at it.

As with tachometers, people have very strong opinions as to whether a digital display is fine or whether there must be a swept analog looking display.

You can have just one if you want. Just switch the digital speedometer displays to another setting. You have choices.

I think they have the analog speedo as backup. Problem is the analog is driven off the digital speedo data so if something fails more than likely they both fail. Notice the tach is only shown in analog form. No matter what configuration of instruments you choose you never see a digital tach on the IP or the HUD. That is because it is impossible to read a digital tach as the numbers would be a blur.

since I have the HUD I pretty much NEVER have the digital speed in the dash.

I do like the MPH sign in the dash if I am on an unfamiliar road, but I believe you need the NAV option to see that. The configurable display is one of things I love about this car.

I have my dash display set to something other than the Speedometer. Showing up in the HUD is enough for me.

I've been meaning to look up what the options are and how to change it. Having a second speedo is a waste, especially since I have HUD.

It’s probably a Gob’ment regulation. You always have to have a speedometer. The digital ones can be turned off but not the analog one. We can all feel safer for that.

Another example is rear view mirrors. Even if you have a camera-based rear view mirror, you MUST also have an analog mirror. That's why you see the dual configuration for the C8. The camera is a much better solution with a wider viewing angle, but the feds insist.

Yes, but the quality is dreadful in the C7 - both the rear and front cameras.

But it's hard to beat the reliability of mirrors. They hardly ever fail. That said, their days are limited in automobiles.

Isn't that the truth. What I don't understand is why some cars get better ones than others. My friends Colorado the rear camera is nice and clear and the car is half the price.
