I am taking my 2017 Z06 in for the electronic steering assist recall service and - if I remember correctly - think that I need to remove my Range device before dropping off my car.
Is this correct?
I know that the Range does not affect the warranty or anything, but I'm guessing that the tech will have to use that port at sometime, so the device should be removed.
Any other advice on the subject?
P.S. The Range has been a wonderful addition to my A8. Things are much better without the car going into 4-cylinder mode.
I took my 2019 in for its first oil change at Parkway Chevy in June. I forgot to take out the Range out. The oil change guy at Parkway removed the range, plugged in his reader and then put my Range back in. No big deal. They see them all the time.
I only had to remove mine and drive the 200 miles so I could pass the emissions testing. That's the only reason I'm aware of that would make you need to remove it but I'm no expert in this. My service guys have never seemed too bothered by it in the past but I do try to remove it before I drop it off.
I've always wondered why GM cares about them if in the long run it does help the TC issues and in theory saves them money. You'd think they'd be encouraging their use under the table so to speak. They can't openly push for their use due to the gov regs and all.

I would unplug it when going in for service. While it doesn't change anything that would be a warranty issue, it is simple enough to just umplug, get service done, then re-plug the device into the OBD port.
Any time a dealer flunky(and who know who will deal with ones car) has to muck with anything, it may not matter what logic would or would not dictate, much less how many Range devices they might have seen. Just remove the d**ned thing and be safe about it!
Who knows; they might even toss or "lose" it since it will likely be in their way and it is not authorized by GM. The latter might make it tough to do anything about it.
I unplugged mine and put it in the console. Drove 30 miles, they did the Multi Point Inspection and used the OBD Port. When I got back in the car I plugged it back in and went on my merry way!!!
Whenever I forget and leave something plugged into the OBDII port on any of may cars, the servicing shop merely unplugs it and leaves it on the console. Trivial.
