Curious to know if anyone with an A6 uses the range device? Seems like most who are using it have the A8. Have used it on my A8 coupe with great results. Now considering a 2014 C7 convertible with the A6 transmission. Not reading much about any torque converter problems with the A6, but I still have no desire to run a Vette on 4 cylinders.
After replacing the belt tensioner which failed ostensibly due to the vibrations associated with the V8/V4 switch I put a Range on my 2014 A6. I don't even know it is there unless I watch the DIC and see that it never goes to V4. I guess the fuel mileage is affected a little, but my driving habits are so inconsistent that I would never notice.
I have a friend with a 2014 A6. He installed the Range after I told him how much I liked it in my 19 GS. He has had it for about 6 months and loves it.
I bought the range 2 weeks after I bought mine used and put 24,000 miles on it never taking it off... I would not own any auto corvette without it installed.
Thanks to all for your input. Thought it would be ok, but figured I’d better ask first. I agree that it works great with the A8. Can see no reason (other than a bit less mpg) not to use it in an A6. If for no other reason than the added peace of mind. Will definitely be doing so. Wish GM had never come up with that crazy AFM system!

Earlier this spring I installed the Range AFM device on my ‘14 A6. Works great and no transition into V4 mode any more. I’d recommend installing one if you buy an automatic C7, regardless of year.
I have a 2014 Z51 A6 wit 63,000 miles. Never noticed any vibration or shudder when shifting between V8 and V4. The shift is seamless. I only know it happens from the instrument display. Never had a tensioner problem either. I know of no benefit for my car with a Range and only see added expenses in the device cost and reduced mileage. V8 is always there when wanted so I don’t know what the problem is with V4. Am I missing something here?
When people complain about losing gas mileage with the Range device, are you talking overall mileage or mostly highway way mileage? I don’t think they go into 4 mode very often in the city so I would tend to think it is just the steady highway driving that is affected.

A C7 with the A8 will go into V4 mode even in the city. My previous '16 base car never missed a chance. So, when I traded it for a '19 GS A8 I uplugged the Range from the '16, and plugged it in at 5 miles on the odo. I haven't unplugged since.
I never check the mpg's around town, but I did check the '16 on a road trip last year. I checked it at 400 miles without the Range, and 400 miles with the Range, the difference in mpg's was -1.1 mpg. Not enough for me to worry about, so it stays on in the GS.
