I can attest to the above. The carbon fiber is definitely lighter

I just bought a transparent top from another Forum member. The storage bag for it just arrived ( I mean JUST arrived). The guy I bought it from is pretty big and he put it on my C7. So I haven't lifted it yet. But I'll be doing that this weekend when I take it off the Vette and put it away until the fall. That's about a 30% increase in weight. We'll see how that goes.

I am not that big but I swap my tops regularly. What I recommend is getting some very grippy rubber gloves to use so the top will not slip from your hands. Pre-position the storage bag on a padded surface. I use a bed. Make sure you have someone to hold doors open or clear your path and you won't have any problems.

Good idea.

Don't laugh, but I use this:
Amazon Amazon

I'm thinking of getting another to help. Its not that the top is heavy... its just awkward in size and shape.

Once the top is released the question quickly becomes "where do I hold" and the bath rail linked above solves that problem. It suctions in place and gives you a nice handle. It seems to hold really well if the top is clean and suction cups are latched properly.

The carbon fiber or painted roof weights 16 lbs. Tadge said the weight of the transparent panel is within a pound or so of the carbon fiber panel.

I don't believe that it is within 1-2 lbs. I can feel a substantial weight difference more like the reported 30%

I have both the painted roof and the transparent one and they both feel about the same weight to me. If one is lighter than the other, it is hard to notice.

The Carbon Fiber Top comes with the car. Transparent is $995.

That's like saying MS Office didn't cost me anything because it came with my PC. Trust me - you paid for it. They built it into the cost of the PC. (And yet LibreOffice is free).

No, the Carbon Fiber Top has a price. Let's say you lost your (flying roof club). What would it cost you to replace it?

So basically one is saying the sky is blue and the other one is saying the sky is black.

If it matters that much, someone with both tops could simply weigh them???

Agreed! Makes single handed top swapping MUCH easier. Need to be careful to clean the suction cups before applying to the top. I keep mine in a drawstring bag and wipe the cups off with a damp microfiber cloth before placing on the top

I was surprised how light my CF painted top was compared to my C6 painted top. The CF makes a big difference.

Was just trying to get a idea because if the glass is really heavy then I wouldnt want to keep removing it solo in fear of dropping it...
