Default First oil change

I've had my new car for almost two months now and 1200 miles. Am I suppose to change the oil in the first thousand? I thought that I read it here somewhere in the forum. I sell new cars for a living (not Chevy) and I tell my guests 10,000 miles before the first oil change is that true for the Vette?

Owners manual says it is critical to change the oil after the first 500 miles.

Then follow the oil life monitor.

10k miles seems way too long, no matter what the car is and I am a mechanical engineer for what it's worth.

Z51, Grand Sport, Z06, ZR1 with dry sump at 500 miles. I personally would do the wet sump at same mileage. Cleans out the engine of break in metal shavings. Agree with above about following oil life monitor.

Dry sump at 500, there isn't the same recommendation for the normal wet sump, but I'd do it anyway.

I have wet sump and did first after 1000 mi, Shoot, I've received all 3 of my free oil changes and only have 3300 mi on the car just because the dealer said I only had 2yr to get all 3 free so the last one only had about 300 mi on the oil (after the car sat for most of the winter, so I didn't fee too bad about that one)

I also highly recommend doing an early change on the wet sump. I did mine at 1100 miles and got the oil analyzed and it had 2% fuel in the oil and the viscosity had thinned out to a 5w20. I cannot imagine how bad the condition of that oil would have been if I had followed the oil life monitor and ran that oil for 7000 miles or more!

I would go ahead and do the first oil change now and then follow the oil life monitor for subsequent changes.

I did the first one on mine at 600 miles and just did my second one yesterday at 3600 miles (wet sump here). I will do the next one in about ten months unless the OLM runs down to 10% prior to then. I got four free with my car as I am in Canada.

I always change my oil in a brand new car at 1000 miles, then 3000 to 5000 miles depending on the type of oil I am running in it.

I ordered my 2017 Stingray and have owned it since new (picked up 2-1-17). Mine is a wet sump/non-Z51 car - so no need for the oil change at 500 miles. I had the first one done at 2,800 miles, the second one done at about 5,800 or so and the third "free" oil change at around 8,800 miles. I had the last one done because I was approaching my two-year anniversary of ownership and it was a 'use it or lose it' type of situation.

My car has just shy of 11,000 miles now and the oil still looks almost new. I am going to do my fourth oil change myself late in the fall by the time I get near 12,000 miles. With the Mobil-1 fully synthetic oil, I could likely go longer......but why? Peace of mind AND keeping within the guidelines of the oil life monitor & the factory powertrain warranty is crucial. My car is not a daily driver and pretty much only comes out of the garage on warm, sunny weekends.
