Occasionally the topic arises about the inability to get the center display to drop down in order to access the center storage display. I thought I had this problem yesterday; I parallel parked my '19 M7 on a local street by backing into the spot, then I pushed the button to open the door to put the sunglasses inside....no joy. I tried turning the ignition back on, then off...still no luck. Here's the quirky detail:
The center compartment will not open under any circumstances if the car is in reverse (which was due to my backing into the parking spot). After a few seconds of thought, I pulled it out of reverse to see if this was the culprit and it opened. I haven't tried it, but I'll bet the door will close if it's open when you shift into reverse. Don't want us to miss that panoramic back-up camera view by having the screen hidden!
I'm turning my storage area behind the info screen into a mini micro wave. instead of vacuuming up all of those French fries on the floor , I can now reheat them. its good for those day trips where you can throw in a small personal frozen pizza.

I would do that but that's where I mounted my flux capacitor.
Of course, my scheme has an advantage over yours in that I can go back before I spilled the fries on the floor in the first place
