Default Getting a replacement key?

I am a new C7 owner. I only got one remote with one key. I purchased a GM remote which didn't come with a blank key.

So how do I get a key coded to match my other key? Has anybody gone through this?

Drive to any Chevy dealer. Have your driver's license, registration, insurance to prove ownership. The parts department can then order the key cut for your VIN. Some large Chevy or Cadillac dealers MAY be able to laser cut keys on site.

You need to do this in person - internet vendors can't perform the security / ownership check.

... And then pay, for what was supposed to have come with the car??? I have almost the same situation. Dealer claimed they couldn't "FIND" my second set of keys. Dealer did mail a new replacement set out to me about a month later. Dealer is 400 miles awa. So, now I still have just one set of keys. Will ANY dealer program and setup this new replacement set? Car has 3 years of warranty doesn't it???

You should be able to add a fob yourself. The fob is not programmed. The car is paired to the fob. The key should have been cut to your VIN. Adding a fob is covered in the manual and a sticky note in the C7 general section.

I bought a blank key off Ebay and had the dealer cut it for $10.

I bought a key off of Ebay also.
Can a locksmith cut these keys?
They are laser cut.

So today I went ahead and made a trip to the dealer.
They want $71 for cutting the blank key that GM sells.
He said it would have to be ordered.
Two to three days max delivery.
Not too bad but GEESH.
Cant it be done cheaper?

I have one local dealer quote for $53 to order a cut key from the parts depot. I'll probably check with another dealer in the area and choose the less expensive one. But - I'm adding a 3rd fob.

Call around - some dealers discount parts a bit.

THE KEYS ARE NOT CUT USING A LASER! Stop spreading this around. It's just a fancy router.

If you want to be precise - a router is for wood. The key cutter is a small milling machine with an end cutter installed.

I lost an F150 key. Dealer just told me $200 for a replacement. Ouch! I thought the corvette would be more.

I found a locksmith shop to cut the key for $35 total (cost of blank and cutting). The blank is the same as a lot of Cadillac models, so most locksmith shops that do auto work will have them in stock.

Default Update

I picked up my special order key from my local dealer today.
Worked like a charm.
Dropped about $75 bucks on it.
